1932~2018
With sadness and much love, we say goodbye to our dad, grandpa, great grandpa and brother, Lawrence Heggs. Predeceased by his wife Martha, parents, Ernie and Alma Heggs, siblings Elizabeth (Elmer) Toner, Wilfred Heggs, Catherine Heggs, Robert Kemper and Eric Grozell. Lawrence is loving remembered by his children, Emily (Ken) Jasper, Roger Heggs, Ernie (Cathy) Heggs, Lois (Brian) Adam, and Larry (Della) Heggs. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, James (Shayla) Jasper and family Ethan, Aiden and Louelle, Robert (Jolene) Jasper and their family Austin and Brody, Connie (Mike) Aitchison and their son Wade, Colton, Brendan (Brittinay) and Ashley (Ali). Lawrence was born in the original Bengough Hospital on April 20, 1932, to Ernie and Alma. He was raised on the family farm in the Bengough District, with his brothers and sisters, Clarence, Elizabeth, Margaret, Wilfred, Herb and Ruby. He attended Una School until he started working on the family farm. In the winter, he would travel to Calgary where he worked in construction. He started his life as a full-time farmer in 1954 on the family farm. In 1958, Ernie and Alma moved to Bengough and Lawrence remained a bachelor until he married Martha on September 24, 1966 at their farm where they raised their five children, Emily, Roger, Ernie, Lois and Larry. Lawrence always said those were the happiest days of his life raising their young family on the farm. He continued to farm until Lawrence and Martha retired to Weyburn in 1996, where they enjoyed their time together with family and friends. Martha passed away in the spring of 2004 after 37 years of marriage. Lawrence continued living in Weyburn where he enjoyed his remaining years. As a lifelong baseball fan, he enjoyed trips with his family to Minneapolis to watch the Twins play and never missed a Jay’s game. He enjoyed spending his summer evenings at the Beavers baseball games and travelling annually to Crosby for the threshing bee. In the winter, he spent time calling the shots for the curling games on TV. Lawrence will be lovingly remembered for his kind heart, bright blue eyes, warm smile and great sense of humour. A Private Celebration of Lawrence’s Life will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 and interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
