With great sadness we announce that Andrew Christian Atkins "Andy", beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away suddenly from a stroke and brain aneurism at Lutheran Medical Center on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
Andy is survived by his son Christian Zander Atkins, mother Martha Barr, father William Barr, sister Erica Barr, sister Lisa Keim, brother-in-law Craig Keim and nephew Kyle Keim. He is proceeded in death by his father Christian Bethea Atkins and niece Audrey Keim.
Andy was born in Denver, Colorado on November 26, 1971. He and his family spent early years in Colorado Springs and Monument later moving to the Denver area. Andy graduated from Chatfield High School in 1990. After high school Andy worked for many years at Vickery Motorsports as a salesman which allowed him to be around his first love, motorcycles. He finished his career at Denver Electric Motor as the Office Manager and Inside Sales Representative.
Andy had a passion for motocross racing and was an accomplished rider having won numerous state titles in the 125cc, 250cc and Open classes. For several years in the 1990s, Andy finished in first place in points at the close of the racing season in both motocross and super cross earning him the number 1 plate. He influenced countless riders over the years and is remembered as kind, generous and humble in the motocross community.
In spite of his sudden passing, Andy gave the gift of life as an organ donor. He was able to help many people by donating kidneys, corneas, bone and tissue through Colorado Donor Alliance.
