Ann and Bill were a part of our family's life since 1961 when we traveled to Denver to teach.  We rented a duplex and my husband, Fred,  went to the back yard fence to meet our neighbors.  Of course when we found they were from Indiana it felt like we had someone in Colorado from home.   My mom couldn't get out to go to the hospital when our 1st son David was born and so Ann, who looked very young in 1962,  pretended to be the grandmother.  There was certainly a lot of winking going on in that baby ward until my mom arrived from Indiana.  Over the years I can think of no other person that I talked to even after not talking for a month,  that made me feel like my problems had been solved, for I knew Ann would be praying that it would be.   She and Bill were  our boys Godparents.  They visited us here in Indiana as we did visit them in Colorado and those visits were always so very special.  Good friends are very hard to find, but dear friends like Ann are a true rare gem.  She was a dear Christian friend, who helped me through the death of my son in 2009 and other of life's trials too numerous to mention.  I always knew that she loved me and my family as we did her.  I saw her last September 2017 and the last words she said to me , when she motioned for me to come closer,  "You know I've always loved you like a sister."  The feeling was definitely mutual and continues after her death.  Rest in Peace dear sweet Ann.   Give Fred a hug from me.  Sincere sympathy from my son and his family and from me to all those in her family .  Love to those that saw she was surrounded by  kindness in her final years.   To Ron and Jan and Rita :  You are truly dear people to have given her such loving car.

 

Growing up, Ann (and Bill) were my surrogate grandparents.  We spent each Thanksgiving and Christmas with them either at our home or theirs.  We spent many Sundays throughout the year with them as well.  Their home was always warm and welcoming, brightly colored with touches straight out of Better Homes and Gardens.  Their home always smelled of warm roasting meals that made our mouths water.  

My fondest memories of Ann were the times she and I would go through her treasured china dolls, paper dolls and books of her childhood.  We would sit on the floor together carefully handling the antique items and re-live her memories together.  We did this while watching Little Rascal reruns.  

I was blessed to have been part of her extended family.  I will miss you Ann, and I love you.  

Ann and Bill were such an important part of our lives growing up. One of my most fondest childhood memories was at Christmastime, it was always a special treat for us to go see Ann and Bill's tree. It had so many ornaments and lights we would look at it what would seem like hours.  Ann would always have hot cocoa and cookies for us. Afterward, while the adults talked, we would try to find and coax out from under the bed her shy Persian kittycats.
