Barbara Joyce Hall was born to James and Leta Hall on April 28, 1928 in Otis, Colorado in the house the family referred to as the little brown house. She was the youngest of five children. Around the age of 2 years old she contracted polio and rheumatic fever at the same time. When her mother took her to the doctor he said "Why did you bring me this dead child?" But she survived. However, she did have lasting effects from her illness.
The family moved to Denver when Joyce was in middle school since that was where her father could find work to support the family. She graduated from West High School and immediately went to work for a pharmaceutical company until it closed its offices in Denver. She then went to work for Denver Public Schools until she retired.
Joyce was passionate about traveling. She went to Israel a couple of times. She visited Jordan, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Russia, Helsinki, London, Paris - where she bought a stylish hat and coat - , Bolivia, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, - where she visited Machu Picchu -, Ecuador, Venezuela, Columbia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and japan. She also traveled to many states within the U.S. She said traveling made you appreciate home.
Joyce was an avid seamstress. She sewed many of her own clothes, and she made vests and gave them away. She also loved crafts.
Joyce was active in church all her life. She taught Sunday School, sang in choir and belonged to a missionary support group.
She had a fondness for funny sayings, one of her favorites was :
As a beauty I'm not a star
There are others more handsome by far
But my face I don't mind it - because I'm behind it
It's the folks in the front that I jar.
Every woman should have four pets in her life. A Mink in her closet, a Jaguar in her garage, a Tiger in her bed, and a Jackass who pays for everything.
Lots wife was a pillar of salt by day and a fireball by nite.
Christians believe they should only have one wife - this is called monotony.
Flattery is like perfume- it is to be inhaled but not swallowed.
Her family was very important to her and she never missed any family get together.
Unfortunately, Joyce developed dementia as she got older and needed to be placed in a care facility where she eventually died.
Many, many thanks to Nadine who became her caretaker in her declining years.
Joyce had no children but she is survived by Christine and Jody Hall, Greg and Bradley Hall, Geraldine Mustian, Nadine Carr and Barbara Peal. She also has many great nieces and nephews.
Ephesians 3:17-19
And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love; and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God's children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it.
