Barbara Eileen Lamar was born to Rachel and W.F. Lamar on 4/22/34 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1952. On 7/17/54, she married Stuart Jenks, and they had 5 children between 1955 and 1961. In 1970, the family relocated to the Denver area. Barbara lived in Florida for a time following her divorce from Stuart, later returning to Colorado.
The impact Barbara made on others was remarkable. She was the embodiment of unconditional love, grace and gratitude, especially for her family and friends. She was altruistic, kind, joyful, laughed easily, and had a huge heart and loving spirit.
Barbara worked in the addiction field for 10 years, along the way acquiring her CACIII certification, and helping thousands of people on their path to recovery. Barb was a cornerstone of sobriety for many. The ripples of her love and serenity will carry on through those she helped, and those she loved, even in her absence.
After her retirement, Barb volunteered to read to individuals who had lost their sight and was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Senior Citizen Association. She enjoyed as much time as possible with her children and grandchildren, traveled, and spent time in her yard. Barb was an artist, a voracious reader and ancestry researcher and a member of St. James Episcopal Church. On February 28 of this year, she celebrated 50 years of being happy, joyous and free as a friend of Bill W.
Barbara is survived by her five children, Bill (Marlene) Jenks of Bennett, CO, Kathryn (Kirk) Newman of Monument, CO, Karen (Jimmy) Kline of Morrison, CO, Pam (Terri) Hayley of Sedro Woolley, WA, and Alan (Sharon) Jenks of Bennett, CO. She was a doting Nana to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson James.
Barbara defined family by love, not biology, and it would be impossible to name those who claimed her, and whom she claimed in return. All were welcome at her table where her love was freely given.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity to honor Barb’s life and love.
