Barbara Lee Meade passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in Thornton, Colorado, at the age of 92. She was born on February 5, 1933, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Rosalie (Edwards) Prentiss (d. 1982) and James Douglas Prentiss, Jr. (d. 1960).
Barbara was the youngest of six children and was preceded in death by her siblings Florence E. (“Sis”) Beattie (1913–2008), Jane Elise Prentiss (1916–2012), Edwina I. Prentiss (1918), Harold Eugene (“Bud”) Prentiss (1920–2007), and James D. Prentiss III (1922–2004). She cherished her family deeply and carried their love and influence with her throughout her life.
Barbara married her first husband, the late Francis Leighton (“Lee”) Kincaid, with whom she welcomed their son, Douglas Kincaid. Through Douglas and his ex-wife Kellie, Barbara was blessed with granddaughter Kara Lyn, who later married Christopher Ott, and great-grandson Caleb Ott, who brought her great joy.
Barbara later married the love of her life, Carlis James (“Carl” / “CJ”) Meade, and together they lovingly adopted their daughter, Noelle Lee Meade. Known affectionately to many as “Barb,” she was always “Babe” to Carl — a reflection of the deep tenderness and devotion they shared. Carl passed away in 2014, and there was not a day that followed when she did not miss him. Their love remained a constant source of warmth, strength, and comfort throughout the rest of her life. Through Noelle, Barbara became a proud grandmother to Alissa Nicole Meade Fields, whom she adored.
Barbara lived a vibrant and joyful life. She loved to dance, to laugh, and to spend time surrounded by family. She enjoyed traveling and camping, especially the cherished yearly trips to Steamboat Springs, and she was known for always hosting a welcoming and lively “Happy Hour,” where everyone felt at home. She had a natural gift for beauty and style — in clothing, makeup, jewelry, and decorating — and carried a lifelong creative spark, having once dreamed of becoming an interior decorator after high school.
Above all, Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, charm, and the joy for life that could light up any room. Her love, laughter, and radiant spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
She is also survived by a large and loving extended family, including 2 children, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 5 nieces, 6 nephews, 20 great-nieces and great-nephews, 34 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and 4 great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Barbara cherished every generation of her family, and each one cherished her in return.
