

Beverly Ann (Ubbinga) Ackerman was born on a farm in George, Iowa on September 14, 1933. She died from cancer in Arvada, Colorado on December 3, 2020 at the age of 87 years. Beverly graduated from George, Iowa High School in 1951 and was Valedictorian of her class. After graduation Beverly attended Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Beverly married Lawrence D. Ackerman on July 18, 1952 and they were happily married for 68 years. They had three children, son Kyle, daughter Lisa and daughter Lynn.
After the University days, the family moved to Minneapolis and spent 10 years there. During those years Bev was primarily interested in taking care of the children and having complete home responsibilities while Larry was on many business trips, including a business trip to Japan where Bev visited Larry while he was there. While in Minneapolis, living in rental housing, she established a life-long friendship with the next- a door lady. The Family moved to Colorado in 1967.
In additions to being a stay at home mother with her young children, Beverly spent most of her life working in the secretarial and office management activity. She was extremely helpful in all aspects of Larry’s real estate business, including social and entertaining gatherings of the real estate staff and clients.
Beverly was a very active person her in whole life. During Larry’s military service in Germany she served as secretary to the George High School Superintendent. During Larry’s college days Beverly worked as a secretary to the Campus Student Activity Center Director at South Dakota University. In addition to being a full time Mom she served as the librarian in an Evergreen, Colorado elementary school. When in Arizona she was active in the Community Club House quilters group making quilts for children and charitable organizations.
After the children finished their education Beverly took on a heavy secretarial office management position with a commercial construction business in Denver and retired from this activity at the age of 70. She earned a deep respect for her ability and work ethic at the Company and was honored with a Company appreciation dinner upon her retirement.
After her retirement, Beverly and Larry enjoyed being snowbirds spending time in their home in Arizona and in their home in Colorado.
Beverly’s family left to morn her passing is Larry, son Kyle Ackerman and daughter-in-law Michelle, daughter Lisa Rowland ,daughter Lynn Butts and Husband Tom Butts, and sister-in-law Norma Ubbinga. Preceding her in death was parents Henry Ubbinga and Christine (Hilbrands) Ubbinga, brother Ronald Ubbinga, sister Marlys Grotluschen and brother-in-law Erwin Grotluschen.
