Beverly “Bev” Mae Allen
November 1, 1921 – December 23, 2016
A resident of Lakewood, Colorado, Bev died peacefully on December 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Allen Jr.; parents Jerry Monroe Phillips and Anna DiGiacomo (James); sisters Mary Lucero, Lucy Morgan and Emma Carpenter, and brothers, Vernon Phillips and Virgil Phillips. She is survived by her son Ronald Scott Allen of Surprise Arizona, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
The youngest of 6 children, Bev was born in Golden, Colorado where her family operated a farm. In her youth, she worked in her mother’s boarding houses, located in mining towns including southern Colorado, downtown Denver, New Mexico, and California. She was especially fond of her time in Aguilar Colorado. Bev and her family moved often; Bev’s ability to adapt to change was likely a result of this time in her life. She attended Longmont grade school, Horace Mann Jr. High and East High School. Bev graduated from the Emily Griffith Opportunity School.
Bev worked in a number of department stores in downtown Denver before marrying Thomas Allen Jr. in 1947 and moving to East Denver. A wife, mother and homemaker, Bev loved to read, take walks and spend time in the mountains.
Bev will be remembered for her loving kindness, gentleness, accommodating nature, beauty and grace, and her surprising sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM Crown Hill Cemetery Tower, located at 7777 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, 80033. Interment and reception will immediately follow.
