To Betty, Cherie, Susan and Jason;

This is Brian Skaggs.  I'm sure Jason will remember since Jason and I were pretty good friends for a few years when you all lived on 8th Street and me on Carr Street.  Maybe Betty, Cherie and Susan will remember.  I remember how Jason and I used to mercilessly tease Cherie and Susan.  I came across this and the shock of the memory and the sadness of seeing Carl had died caught me all at once.   I won't ramble on too long, but the Kreifels family hold a certain place in my childhood and a good one.  I spent much time at your home, probably more than I remember and more than you probably wanted me to but nonetheless; Thank you so much for being truly hospitable, patient and for a while kind of like a second family.  My memories of Carl are all good ones.  I distinctly remember now, so many years later what a kind, genuine and open soul he was.  In this life, he was a good man the likes of which is hard to mimic by applying today's standards.  My sympathies to each of you.  I hope you are all well and living the lives you hoped to, or as close to it as possible.

Sitting by my fire pit tonight thinking about all the times we went camping in the wilderness  and riding horse for 10miles just to get where most people never reach and really experiencing  what true nature is all about.  I'am so lucky to have been exposed to such rawness of nature and really enjoying what God Created. Thanks to you Dad and Mom for giving me the Gift of Nature and experiencing truly  what it is so be free of everything and enjoying the experience of fishing, hiking and hearing the coyotes is the back ground. I was blessed to have a Amazing Dad who truly loved his family and So Dearly Miss him. Thanks again Dad and Mom for the exposure of the world you gave to all 3 of us kids. 

Betty so sorry to hear about Carl's passing.  I have so many great memories shared with Carl from working at the Refinery, trail rides and especially our great Elk hunting trips. I will never forget my good friend Carl.   Kenny Hubbart

I feel so lucky to have known Carl when he and Betty volunteered many, many hours for the National Western Stock Show.  He taught so many of us how to "just get it done," will very little talk.  Thank you for all the lessons and great memories!  See you on Saturday,  Kellie and Matt Lombardi

We were so sorry to hear of Karl's passing. Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend his memorial service. God's blessing on you and your family. May God hold you in the palm of His hand! Our love to you.

An absolutely wonderful person, always smiling and a real joy to talk to. He will be missed by many but he is really only a memory away.

Betty, I remember all the rides when we were all more active in the BBSC. In the years I was active in  rides with the Club you and Carl were always there to help newcomers adjust to the rowdy behavior of the members.  In the later years after you both  became really important and loyal volunteers at the NWSS we again saw more of you both. Your your sunny faces as you delivered all the packages around he Vendor floor improved our day. Carl personally helped me in my real work with his knowledge of the neighborhood where you had your business. Thanks for everything including the introduction to Carl's sister Ethel when I moved to Westcliffe.   Dorothy Nepa

We are sorry to hear of Carl's passing.  We will miss square dancing with him.  It has been fun over the years to have him in a square.

Carl Kreifels was one of the best men I have ever met.  He had such a sweet and loving disposition any time you were around him.  I never saw him without a smile on his face, especially when he was with his family.  He would do anything for anyone - no questions asked.  So happy to know that he's with God and that his suffering is gone.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Betty, Sue, Cherie, Jason and the rest of the family.

Betty---Rick and I are so sorry for your great loss.  We can  have great memories of riding horses with you and Karl in the 80s and 90s.  Then working with you both at the Denver Stock Show.  I will be gone on the 20th but please know we will be thinking about the two of you while we are gone. Will miss him!!!

Betty, You and Carl were always a bright light in the years that I was in the Buffalo Bill Saddle Club with you! Great times that will always be cherished.

I worked at the refinery with Carl for about 40 years.   He was a good friend and employee.  I talked to Carl and his wife Betty a couple of months ago and I have been meaning to call him again recently.  I"m sorry I procrastinated and did not call him back.  If you have friend that is terminally ill, don't make the same mistake that I did because you don't get a second chance. I will miss you Carl and Betty.
