

Catherine “Cathy” L. Martinez, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother passed away on Monday, October 9th, 2023, at the age of 64, in Wheat Ridge, CO. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a life well-lived.
Cathy was born on September 18th, 1959, in Denver, CO to Stephen and Mildred Laner. She grew up with a deep sense of family values that she carried with her throughout her life. In 2001, she married the love of her life, James Martinez, and together, they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and commitment that spanned 22 years.
As a mother, Cathy was a constant source of support and affection to her children, Stephanie, Anthony, and Richard. Her nurturing spirit, guidance, and unwavering love have left an unforgettable mark on their lives. She reveled in the joy of motherhood, creating countless cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
Cathy’s role as a grandmother brought her immense happiness. Her grandchildren, Ariana, Ruperto, Samantha, and Isaiah, were the light of her life. She doted on them, sharing stories, laughter, and life lessons that will be remembered with love and gratitude.
In addition to her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Cathy was a successful entrepreneur. She owned and operated a restaurant called "Grandma’s Kitchen,” where she served delicious meals with a special touch of home-cooked love. Her culinary creations became a beloved part of the community of Trinidad, CO. Cathy also owned a thrift store named "Second Time Around,” in Trinidad, CO, where she shared her passion for vintage treasures and unique finds with her customers. Her restaurant and store were a testament to her creativity and business savviness.
Cathy was a woman of many talents and had a remarkable work ethic. She was not only a successful entrepreneur but held various other jobs throughout her life. Cathy took on the role of a dedicated security guard, ensuring the safety of those in her care. She also worked as a diligent waitress, providing exceptional service and a friendly smile to patrons. In her later years, she became a compassionate home health worker, extending her warmth and care to those in need. Her versatility and determination were truly admirable, and she will be remembered not only for her entrepreneurship but also for her dedication to making a difference in the lives of others through her work.
Above all, Cathy was a woman of deep faith who firmly believed in God and the power of prayer. Her spirituality was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joyous and challenging times. Catherine’s devotion to her faith was evident to all who knew her, and she found solace and strength in her religious beliefs.
Cathy is preceded in death by her father, Stephen Laner, mother, Mildred Laner, and her only brother, Nickolas Scheidt, who have welcomed her with open arms in the afterlife.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Martinez; her devoted children, Stephanie (John) Coca, Anthony Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, and Brenda Sanchez; her cherished grandchildren, Ariana (Damian) Chavez, Ruperto (Andrea) Coca, Samantha (Emilio) Coca, and Isaiah Coca; forever son in law, Matthew Coca; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
To honor Cathy’s memory, we have selected a group of honorary pallbearers who played a significant role in her life and share in the celebration of her legacy. They are Anthony Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Ruperto Coca, Isaiah Coca, Damian Chavez, Emilio Trujillo, Matthew Coca, and Mark Duran.
In her memory, a memorial service will be held on November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 in the Tower of Memories Chapel where family and friends can gather to celebrate her life and bid her a fond farewell. The family invites you to join them for a reception at The Clubhouse, 398 S. Balsam Street in Lakewood, CO 80226 immediately following the memorial service.
Cathy’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her enduring love.
