

While it is possible to receive good counsel from a wide circle of family and friends, few could do it with the skill and aptitude of Christy Louise Zachary. She had a true talent for helping others reach their full potential and brought out the best in those who sought her help. Christy was a forward-looking woman whose personality was filled with empathy toward everyone she met. She could be quiet and reserved, but her style of communication was authentic and direct. An excellent communicator, Christy was a master at using imagery when she explained her ideas and concepts. She seemed to have an endless supply of innovative concepts and strategies for how to help those around her. Her sensitivity, kindness and generous attitude made her a wonderful friend for all who knew her.
From the time she was born on November 7, 1949, Christy showed a deep concern for others. She was a giving and caring individual, ethical and full of integrity and warmth. Christy came into this world at St Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO. Her parents were Bernie and Florence Reed. Christy was raised in Palmer Lake, CO.
Because fellowship was so important to her, Christy promoted harmony with her siblings. She was raised with three younger siblings, Miles, Janet and Craig. Christy was something of the family diplomat. She helped to settle problems and conflicts and kept the family running smoothly.
As a young girl, Christy interacted well with other children. She was helpful. She was an independent person who had a vivid imagination. Christy had a number of interests in her youth. She was an active child. Christy took part in track on the competitive hurdling team. In her spare time she liked to play outside with her siblings. Her family had a lot of animals on the ranch she was raised on in Palmer Lake. Christy's memorable achievements included almost being chosen to go to the Olympics for her High School Track Team.
A good student who was enthusiastic about learning, Christy was considered by many to be a high achiever. She graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1967. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite courses and teachers. Her favorite class in high school was the social kind. She loved the interaction with her friends the most. Christy's main focus in high school beside helping raise her siblings was traveling with the competitive track team.
Christy's talents proved to be an asset for her during her college years. She excelled in classes, even in some subjects that didn’t particularly interest her. Christy became known to her peers as a seeker of wisdom who appreciated all types of courses, especially those in Liberal Arts which allowed her to build on her remarkable retention of general knowledge. She earned her Cosmetology License in 1968.
Able to maintain a positive focus on the potential good to be found in others, Christy was always ready with solid advice and guidance to offer her group of friends. She was generally friendly to all who knew her, yet to some she seemed quite independent. For those who really knew Christy, they recognized that she could be full of surprises. Christy enjoyed a small but solid group of true friends. She would willingly support those friends when they needed it. Because of her ability to read people, she had an uncanny knack for knowing when a friend needed help. While growing up, some of her best friends were Frank Burg, Gale and Darrell Norris, Nancy Brown, Deborah Wallisch Borys, Jack Martin, Linda Bee, Deb Lamont Chamberlain, Cinda Ballard, Susan Seltzer, and so many more. Later in life, she became friends with Gary and Sharon Steege, Chuck and Maire Carlberg, and all the teachers from Bergen Elementary School in Evergreen.
Christy was romantic, even poetic at times. She was completely devoted to family and friends, able to show her emotions without going overboard about it. On December 16, 1967 Christy exchanged wedding vows with Michael Harvey Liverant at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton in Littleton, Colorado. Chris and Mike were married for 24 great years and lived in different homes in Denver, Westminster and Evergreen. During these years Christy utilized her cosmetology license doing hair in the local beauty shop, was a stay at home mother when the kids were young and then became the First Grade Aide at Bergen Elementary School to stay close to the kids.
All who knew her would agree that there was a certain kind of magic in how Christy was able to bond with her children. While she could be a firm disciplinarian, she could also fill the role of being a collaborator with her kids. Christy was always a mentor who helped her family reach its full potential. Christy was blessed with three children, two sons, David and Bret, one daughter, Andrea. They were also blessed with five grandchildren and one great grandchild., Candice, Austin, Josh, Parker, Preston and Great Grandson, Cooper. Christy also had multiple grandchildren from her late husband, Dick Zachary's three children, Chad, Laura and Audrey.
Christy met her second husband, Richard Zachary (known to us as Dick) while she was pregnant with Andrea in 1976. After her amicable divorce with Michael, Christy and Dick's friendship turned to a romantic relationship and they married in Gallup, New Mexico in 1991. Together they ran an Indian Jewelry business and an antique store in different parts of New Mexico. They lived in Gallup, Ruidoso, and Albuquerque. They were married for a wonderful 15 years and traveled all over the United States and a couple places in Europe together. Christy was sadly widowed in 2005 after Dick had a tough battle with Cancer.
Christy projected a subtle but positive influence in her workplace. She was comfortable working behind the scenes to help everyone get their job done, and she worked hard at all times to help others to reach their highest potential. While her colleagues did view her as a high-spirited type, Christy was effective at working with others to gain acceptance for her ideas. Christy could be a perfectionist at times, but wasn’t one to seek out personal recognitions. She possessed excellent insight and a strong ability to meet schedules. She was an innovator who worked well independently, and she enjoyed the task of meeting a constant array of challenges. Her primary occupation was being self employed owning different retail stores. She utilized her cosmetology license for many years then was a stay at home mom with the three young children. Later she came to own an Indian Jewelry store, Antique store, Yarn and Bead store. The last couple of years she was helping her daughter, Andrea run her Allstate Insurance Agency.
As an imaginative and inventive person, Christy was comfortable showing her creative spirit. She enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Once Christy took on a new project, she saw it through to its completion. Her favorite pursuits were crocheting, painting, gardening and flowers, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was content to enjoy her hobbies alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Christy was one who put forth her best effort in every aspect of her life, and that carried over to her participation in sports as well. Her sense of diligence inspired others and in turn drew best efforts from her teammates. In high school, Christy ran for the track team. Christy was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she got the opportunity. She would enjoy watching drag racing, football and boxing with her adult kids.
Because Christy was a person who enjoyed helping, teaching and working with others, she was a perfect fit for many types of organizations. Her ability to encourage others, energize the group and her ability to solve all sorts of problems made her a desirable member of a wide variety of organizations. In high school, Christy was a member of the track team. Throughout her later years, Christy was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Christy was a woman with clear convictions and high principles, and her faith was important to her. She was an inspiration to many people who recognized her sense of commitment and esteem for others. She was not a member of a specific church and lived more of a spiritual lifestyle.
Christy possessed strong skills in long-range planning and project completion, a quality that positively influenced her travel and vacation planning. Favorite vacations included Caribbean, Europe including Switzerland, France, and Germany. Road trips throughout the United States from California to Florida.
Christy was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of Christy's favorites was her dog Roo - a miniature pincher. They were best friends for approximately 15 years. Her furry family was rounded out by her 2 cats Sheena and Cali.
As someone who treasured harmony and quiet, Christy accepted a partial retirement and made the most of it. She always liked to be a part of a business whether it was with her sister in Indiana running the Yarn and Bead Store or with her daughter helping with her Insurance Agency. Christy was well prepared for everything. Her new life involved relocating to Denver, Colorado after living in New Mexico for 15 years then Indiana for 10. In her bit of retirement, she found pleasure in crocheting, enjoying television and loved staying home and spending time with her family.
Christy passed away on March 12, 2021 at UC Health, Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Christy fought a tough battle with Covid-19 and Phenomena. She is survived by her brother, Miles and children, David, Bret and Andrea; her grandchildren Candice, Austin, Josh, Parker and Preston; and Great Grandson Cooper. Services will be held privately at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary. Christy will be laid to rest next to her brother, mother, grandmother and great grandmother in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Though she could be a private person at times, Christy was always able and willing to give of herself. She was so in tune with others that she often seemed able to read their minds. Christy carried with her an almost mystical sense of life. She was a person who was highly original in her thinking and used metaphors and symbols to describe many aspects of her life. A poetic, intuitive “teacher”, Christy Louise Zachary shared herself freely and family and friends will remember Christy for the strength of her convictions.
