

She had three siblings, brothers Jackie Widger (deceased), Vern Widger (Gail) of Longmont, Colorado,
and one younger sister Latricia (Pat) DeSantis (deceased).
Reflecting on growing up during the great depression, Connie said:
“We never went hungry. Daddy was a welder. Farmers traded him food for welding.
They always needed something fixed”
After graduating from Mead High School,
Connie graduated from the Wayne School of Dental Assistants in Chicago, Illinois
and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Kinkade in Cherry Creek for many years.
Connie married George Eugene Michael Smith on September 29, 1951
in the Grand Catholic Cathedral in Denver.
They were married for nearly 63 years, until separated only by death.
George was a veteran of both the US Navy and the US Air Force.
Connie’s life goals were simply to serve the Lord, and to be a good wife and mother.
Connie and George had three sons:
Michael, (Susan)
James (Jim) (deceased)
and Joel (deceased) (Shelley)
After her sister Pat’s unexpected passing,
Connie and George became the guardians of her teenaged niece and nephew,
Maria (deceased) and Philip (Phil) DeSantis,
and provided a loving home until they reached the age of maturity.
Connie was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Thornton, Colorado for over sixty years
where she raised her family, and volunteered and served for over forty years.
Her best and most beloved friend of sixty some odd years
was Madrene Richter of Arvada, Colorado.
Connie’s greatest pride and joy in life was her husband and her family.

Connie entered in eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
on Saturday, April 3, 2021
at Mountain Vista Senior Living Community in Wheat Ridge, Colorado,
Connie leaves a permanent and lasting legacy of love to everyone who knew her.
Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church
in Thornton, Colorado on
Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:30 am.
Inurnment Ceremony to follow at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
