David "Dave" L Walden, born on August 9, 1962, passed away on April 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving sisters, Carla and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marie Walden, and two siblings, Susan Wieseler and Paula Walden. David is survived by his brother John Walden, sisters Carla Thomas, and Lisa Comito, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Dave's journey through life was defined by remarkable courage, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved. Despite facing immense challenges, Dave approached life with unwavering strength and a positive spirit.
He began his career working for his father's home-building business as a draftsman, honing his skills before transitioning to Computer-aided Drafting and Design (CADD) work on the Denver International Airport. His talent and dedication led him to an extraordinary opportunity with Antarctic Support Associates, where he spent several seasons in McMurdo, Antarctica, managing the technical infrastructure that supported scientists’ research and the military's weather systems, ensuring safe flight operations. The relationships he built there afforded him many opportunities, including trips to the South Pole and Dry Valleys, as well as a journey on the Polar Star, an icebreaker ship that cleared McMurdo Sound, allowing ships to bring supplies to the base.
In 1985, Dave survived a car accident that threw him ten stories in the air, landing on his feet, which shattered his pelvis. It was a miracle that he survived, let alone ever walked again. However, this accident led to Dave contracting HIV through a blood transfusion, a battle he courageously fought for most of his life.
Despite the pain and difficulties caused by his injuries, Dave still loved to drive. Later in his life, he embarked on another chapter, driving for ride-share platforms. Over the years, he served thousands of customers, driving hundreds of thousands of miles, with some regulars evolving into cherished friendships.
Dave loved to share his adventures. His stories were numerous and humorous, albeit sometimes never-ending, and always accompanied by his infectious laughter. During his better years, you'd seldom see him without a smile, a testament to his resilient and joyful spirit.
Dave's battle with AIDS ultimately led to his passing, as his body's ability to fight a bacterial infection became compromised, leading to pneumonia and eventually weakening his body to the point where it could no longer function.
Throughout his life, David remained a source of inspiration to all who knew him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit touched the hearts of many, leaving an indelible mark on the world around him.
A private celebration of David's life will be held for family and close friends. We appreciate the outpouring of support and understanding during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing.
Dave's legacy of resilience, laughter, and love will continue to inspire us all.
