Don's Biography.....
Don was born in Wheatland Wyoming on November 13th 1938. As a young child he had a horse named Brownie and loved the farm life in Wheatland. When he was in the 4th grade his parents moved the family to Edgewater Colorado. It was hard to say goodbye to Brownie but his life was filled with other animals to include a Doberman named Only, a German Shepard named Shane and a Capuchin monkey. He got into music after moving to Edgewater and his parents supported him wholeheartedly. He attended Edgewater High School and played in the band, he played saxophone, Tenor, Alto and Bari. He graduated from Denver University with a Masters in Music Education.
Don taught elementary band in Jefferson County for 32 years, with all those years of teaching there are just too many schools to name. He was known to thousands of young people as Mr. Stugart and influenced their lives with his music teaching. Over the years he’s had the pleasure of reconnecting with many of these young musicians in their adult lives to play with them professionally.
Don played professionally all over the City and State. He played with many bands to include; Nelson Riddle, Stevie Wonder and the Temptations along with many other popular artists. He had an amazing music career and although played with many amazing artists he always remarked that the Kicks Band was truly one of his greatest joys. He ran his own band called the Front Four and entertained at many weddings and private parties over the years. He also loved playing with the Ringling Brothers Circus and looked forward to that gig each year they came to town.
Don married his beloved wife Polly on October 26th 1985 and always said “that was the happiest day of my life”. His love for music, love for his friends and most of all his love for his family are what he’d like to be remembered most for. Don’s music will forever play in our hearts and the world has more melody because of his teaching.
