Dorothy S. Blakely

Dorothy LeVola Sparks Blakely of 7187 Julie Lane Evergreen, Co 80439 was 96 years of age when she passed away in her sleep early Monday morning due to heart failure. She was born April 16, 1918 in Woodward, OK to her parents Margie Fithen Sparks and Sherman V. Peoples.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Steven Blakely of Denver, CO and Richard Arnold of Bailey, CO. She had 5 grandchildren- Nikki, Steven, Michael, Michelle and Danielle; 6 great grandchildren- Ashley, Alyssa, Samantha, Shaya, Izyk & Ethan; and one great granddaughter Sophia. She is also survived by her sisters Marilyn Hunter & Rozann Taylor and brothers Robert Hunter & Ronnie Hunter.

Dorothy married her high school sweetheart John Mummert Blakely in 1942 for 6 years and re-married him in 1972. John passed away in Evergreen in 1974.

She graduated from Ft. Hays College in Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1941. She was a talented artist and school teacher. She built her own home (literally) in the Evergreen area where she lived for 50 years. She moved to Life Care Center of Evergreen in 2009. She was a strong and independent woman with a kind heart, warm outgoing personality and loved working on her cabin. Dorothy will be dearly missed…….
