Dr. Douglas V. Birk

Dr. Douglas Vernon Birk, a resident of Windcrest, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 99 on June 13, 2018. Douglas, the second of eleven siblings, was born to John and Jenny Birk in Allouez, Michigan on August 7, 1918. He married Lucille Mills on June 20, 1947.

Douglas graduated from Northern Baptist Seminary with a BA in Theology and a Master of Divinity in 1947. He earned an MA in Christian Education from Wheaton College in 1954. He received a Doctor of Divinity from Denver Seminary in 2000.

He was one of the four founding professors of Denver Seminary in 1950, where he served in a number of capacities, becoming Administrative Vice President in 1956 until he retired in 1982. Following retirement he voluntarily established and organized the Denver Seminary archives over a period of twenty years.

He and his wife, Lucille, were charter members of Trinity Baptist Church, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where they faithfully served in a number of ministry roles for over forty years.

Douglas is survived by three children Judy Shouse (Larry), John Birk (Judy), and Phil Birk (Karen).He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Jeremy Shouse, Krista Evans (Tony), Andrea Streff (Erik), Leah Carrell, Ian Birk (Camille), Lacey Price (Josh), Cameron Birk (Amy), Amy Birk, Luke Birk, Olivia Jansons, and Thomas Birk, as well as eleven great grandchildren, Jake, Ally, Lachlan, Josiah, Liam, Elleanor, Rilynn, Reagan, Rosalie, Marion, and Luca. Douglas also had three surviving siblings Charlotte Kildal, Claudette Stanley, Robert Birk, and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille, his son, Timothy, and seven of his siblings.

His memorial service will be held on August 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Denver Seminary Chapel, 6399 South Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, Colorado 80120.
