He is predeceased by his parents, Chauncey and Fern Smith; wife, Evelina Mardell Strassheim, step-son Shane, three brothers – Lucien, Paul, and Irving Smith and sister – Lillian Smith
Survived by: Brother – Robert Lynn (Diane) Smith, children - Lisa Yesensky and Lauri (Paul) Clark, Step-son Sean Strassheim, six grandchildren and one great grandson.
After high school he joined the Air Force. Was an active member of a local Gun Club and Shooting Range, enjoyed elk hunting on horseback and fishing. Doug worked as a computer programmer for Burns Wholesale Sporting Goods in Denver until late 1980’s; then contract programmer for Robinson Brick and Tile through the 1990’s; contract programmer A & I Nut and Bolt Company until retirement. Spent 20 years doing guided pheasant hunts at New Lodge in Eastern Colorado. Was a United States representative of Sales for Lucky Strike Fishing equipment out of Canada along with good friend and colleague Bruce Stengel.
