It’s been said that “we live our lives as a tale that is told. Each day a page and each year a chapter.” Ed enjoyed 78 incredible chapters in his life story, so while our sense of loss in this moment is great we are comforted by the fact that the memories and legacy he leaves will live on in our hearts as we remember him.
78, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2014 in Louisville, Colorado. He was born on June 18, 1936 in Gainesville, Georgia to Charles and Grace Bowles. He considered himself a true patriot and served his country in the Army after high school. He took great pride in being a member of the 101st Airborn Division. He often joked that he jumped out of planes for an extra $50.00 a month, which was a car payment in the 1950’s. After his military service, he enjoyed many years in the mining industry at Oxidental Minerals, Homestake Mining, and Superior Oil.
He was always one to point out the beauty of God’s creation in clouds, trees, sunsets and children. He was inspired to create many paintings featuring scenes of the Southwest, which he gained an appreciation for while traveling during his mining career in New Mexico and Arizona. He loved cameras and took thousands of pictures of his grandchildren, who he adored.
He loved cars, old and new, often pointing out the make and model of every car from the 1930’s to 2014. He loved reading automobile magazines, mysteries and history books. He could spend hours on the internet. He had a passion for travel that was cut short due to health issues but continued to travel daily via “Google Earth”.
He loved his family more than anything in this world. Some of his final words on the evening of his passing were, “We have a wonderful family, I am so blessed!” Then Jesus took his hand and carried him to his heavenly home.
Ed is survived by his loving family; his wife Lydia Bowles, son Kevin (Alison) Bowles, son Barton (Cheri) Bowles, daughter Windy (Bryan) Marshall, son Matthew (Deanne) Conrad, daughter Megan (Mike) Van Dyke, sister Willette (Kenneth) Kelley, sister Carol (Tim) Wilson, also 10 grandchildren; Deanna Bowles, Zachary (Amanda) Bowles, Travis Bowles, Garrett Bowles, Madison Van Dyke, Kaila Marshall, Jack Van Dyke, Ethan Marshall, Austin Conrad, and Sadie Conrad, and one great grandson, Blaise Bowles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Grace Bowles, and a brother Charles Bowles.
