Edith Nell Martin passed away on December 19, 2025, at Keystone at Legacy Ridge Assisted Living in Westminster, Colorado. She was 101 years old. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Lee Martin (Michelle) and Laura Martin Horesh (Stephen). She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, LeVern Curtis Martin. She had five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Edith was born on September 22, 1924, on a farm near Shipman, Illinois. Her parents, Roy and Hulda Archer, had eight children. They were Rodney, Anabel, Virginia, Lyndel, Marlin, Allen, Edith, and Mildred. Edith attended Ingersoll School, a one room schoolhouse until she started high school at Shipman High School. She graduated high school in 1942. Edith went on to study nursing at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois. Shortly after entering her nursing program she signed up for the Army Nurse Cadet Corps. Edith earned her diploma in nursing on May 12, 1945. Because World War II had ended, she was never called to serve in the Army. Edith’s first job as an RN was at Wesley Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. While working full time on the night shift, she enrolled in Mosher Business College. She studied all the subjects necessary to manage a medical office. In 1949, she moved to Denver, Colorado. She quickly found a job in a urology practice and became active at Trinity United Methodist Church. She met her future husband, Vern Martin, and they were married on June 17, 1951. Edith loved dancing, music, and playing games. She played the piano “by ear” and used her talent for her own and others’ enjoyment. She was gifted in bringing people together for service projects or just to have fun. She became an active member at Broomfield United Methodist Church in 1959. Her legacy of service in Broomfield includes being a founding member of Broomfield FISH, facilitating a Meals on Wheels program in Louisville, Lafayette, and Broomfield, and starting the Colorado J chapter of the National TTT Society. Growing up on a tenant farm with seven siblings during the Great Depression shaped Edith’s character. She described herself as penny-pinching, resourceful, and generous with her time and talents. Those who knew her would also say she had a beautiful smile and was truly God’s servant. A private viewing and graveside service will be held on December 26, 2025, at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Broomfield United Methodist Church on January 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broomfield United Methodist Church, 545 W. 10th Ave., Broomfield, CO 80020. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
