Edith was born in Long Beach CA to William and Sylvia Selvy on April 4th 1918 and lived a full life for 98 years until she went to sleep and peacefully passed on April 13th 2016 at her daughter Carol’s home in Modesto, California where she had lived for the past eight years. She had a full, busy, sometimes hard life but just kept on going. She was like the families own little energizer bunny.
Early on Edith started working in food service where she had to stand on crates as a dishwasher. Later she worked for many years as a waitress, a cook, restaurant owner and then finally as an assistant manager in a senior’s apartment complex in California. She worked the last job until she was 90 years young and still climbing stairs and walking several miles a day. She didn’t give up until the end. Though the vascular dementia had taken away most memories and she didn’t know who anyone was her face lit up at the sound of a familiar voice or the sight of a familiar face. Right up until the end she kept saying she wanted these doctors to get her well so she could go back to work.
About 1930, in Virginia where she was living with her navy husband, Edith started having her 1st of 11 children when she had Leroy Blaisure (deceased), then Arlene Davis, and finally Ted Blaisure (deceased) in 1942. Shortly after that she divorced and left Virginia via train with the three small children and moved back to Southern CA where she met C. B. Mullaney, who she married in late 1943. Sometime around 1945 they moved to the Denver, Colorado area. They lived there for about 40 years until, as a widow, she moved back to California. While in Colorado she had Carol Gipson, John Mullaney, JoeRene Mullaney (deceased), Ina Milam (deceased), Charles Mullaney, Irene Leeper, Jeanie Sumner and Joe Rae Mullaney. Over the years her children have given her 25 grandchildren, a multitude of great grandchildren and she was even fortunate enough to have some great great grandchildren.
Edith was predeceased by C. B (1976) and four of her children and several grandchildren. She is being laid to rest beside her husband and near his parents John and Mary Mullaney on April 30th 2016 at 11:00 AM at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
