Ed was born of Norwegian immigrants, Edward and Mary Matson, living out his youth on a cattle ranch in Laramie, Wyoming. He graduated early from Laramie High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1947.
His family relocated their ranch from Laramie to Ft. Collins, CO where he met and married Shirley on December 28, 1952. Ed and Shirley recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They moved to Denver and raised their son, Donald and daughter, Gail in Lakewood, CO.
Ed was Vice President of Transportation for Great Western Sugar for over 20 years, was a Scale Inspector for Western Weighing Inspection Bureau for 20 years. Ed became a general contractor after retirement.
He was a longtime member of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on many committees over the years. He treasured all of the friendships and memories he gathered while attending sporting events and traveling with fellow church members. Ed spent all of his free time traveling, playing golf and fishing.
Ed was preceded in death by his son, Donald; brother, Mel Matson; sister, Myrtle Baker; and sister, Lucille MacKenzie.
Surviving family members are his wife, Shirley; daughter, Gail Hansen; granddaughter, Lindsey Yosha (Matt); great granddaughter, Lexi Yosha. Ed is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling St., Lakewood, CO 80215.Memorials may be made in Edward’s name to Lutheran Collier Hospice, 3210 Lutheran Pkwy, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
