October 4, 1932 – February 7, 2021
Ed passed away at his home in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on Sunday, February 6th, 2021 at the age of 88.
Ed was born on October 4, 1932 to James and Rosa Ardourel at the Rifle Range in Golden, Colorado (now known as Camp George West.) Ed had an older brother Frank, younger sister Elena and younger brother Neil.
Ed excelled in football, number 34, but #1 according to P.C.’s ( Phyllis Cooper) dream. He also excelled in
Basketball at Lakewood High School winning several awards in both and recognitions including selection to the State All-Conference team in football in 1952. Along with these achievements, Ed was president of the sophomore class, on the student council, in the Spanish club and Junior Escort.
After graduating high school in 1952, Ed served in the 5th Infantry Division of the US Army and was deployed to Europe and stationed in France and Germany where he continued to cause trouble and was eventually “Kicked out of France”. While in Germany Ed was to receive a Purple Heart medal until it was discovered that his injury was from being hit with a beer bottle in a bar. Upon his return from service, he married his long-time sweetheart Phyllis (‘Coops’) Cooper in 1955.
After purchasing and renovating an old Farmhouse (or “S#!t House'' as Phyllis would say) in Wheat Ridge they managed to raise 5 kids (Lyle (O), Larry (Dink), Kenneth (Kenny, Ken), Daniel (Danny, Toad) and Diane in the small 4-bedroom 2 bath house without losing their minds or one of their kids!
In 1955, Ed joined his brother Frank to run Ardourel Construction Company together for over 50 years creating beautiful homes and buildings throughout Colorado including the first solar powered building (1st National Bank) in Longmont, CO, the Federal Courthouse in Golden, CO and many more. They even “Saved the Town of “George Town” by putting a chain around a large boulder on the side of the mountain to keep it from rolling downhill.
Ed loved playing golf, traveling with his wife and family, car trips to the mountains, Yellowstone, Mesa
Verde…and even a car trip to Mexico, and Las Vegas, where Ed was often mistaken for “Dean Martin." Most of all he loved having fun and causing mischief.
Ed and Phyllis were married for 65 years and enjoyed spoiling 12 adoring grandchildren: Aaron, Ryan, (Lyle and Kim) Alexandra, Michael, (Larry and Debbie) Brittney, Kristin, (Kenny) Alyssa, Kristin, Tyra (Dan and Kathy) Nicholas, Joseph and Wesley (Diane and Mike) and 4 great-grandchildren Xavier, Jordyn and Jackie (Joseph and Crystal) Chloe, (Alexandra and John) Brooks and Charlie (Ryan and Jenny).
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion of Reflection, 7777 W. 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, CO. Service will be officiated by Deacon Collin Coleman.
His final resting place will be at Crown Hill Mausoleum.
