Elmer was born November 19, 1928 in Menlo, Kansas to parents, John and Mary. As a young boy he moved with his family to Colorado where they eventually settled in the Golden area. Elmer was the eldest of three children, having two sisters. He joined the Navy in the spring of 1946. When his duty was completed in early 1948, he returned to Colorado where he met the love of his life, Lorraine. They were married on January 8th, 1949. They made their home in the rural Golden area where together they raised six children.
Soon after marriage, Elmer began his career in the building and trades industry as a plumber, eventually earning his Master Plumber License. In 1952 he joined Plumbers Local Union 3 and was a member in good standing to the day of his passing, (73 years).
Elmer worked hard to make a good life for his family. He provided shared experiences, life lessons, words of wisdom, Dad jokes and an abundance of love.
Elmer enjoyed camping and fishing. He liked to play horseshoes, Pinochle or a lively game of Aggravation. He spent a lot of time on his computer researching and recording the genealogy of his entire family. He absolutely loved spending time visiting with family and friends. He loved hearing stories of his loved ones’ exploits, especially those of the grandkids, great-grandkids and the assorted pets.
Elmer is survived by his children, Jeanette (Gene), Bernadette (Ron), Elmer Jr. (Vicki), Colette (Harold), Kurt (Lydia), Brian (Dena); 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Elmer was kind and caring, wise and witty, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life for Elmer will be held on Monday, December 29th at 10:00 AM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary followed by a reception. Elmer will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton at 1:30 PM the same day.
