Emma Lucero Salazar was born on April 22, 1916 in Los Sauces, CO. Her parents were Enrique (Henry) Lucero and Bersabel Marquez Lucero. Emma’s mother died when Emma was 17 months old. Emma and Ruben Salazar were married on Jan 21, 1935 in Antonito, CO.
Emma and Ruben raised five children, Virgil, Thelma, Alonzo, Beatrice and Gilbert. Ruben and Emma moved to Denver in May of 1956. Emma worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver for 18 years as a Nurses Housekeeper. She retired from that job at the age of 62 and her and her husband traveled a lot.
Emma loved to crochet, quilt and bake (especially homemade bread and pastries). Emma also loved to help her husband with yard work. She very much enjoyed the outdoors.
Emma also loved to eat out at different restaurants and loved to go to Central City and play the slot machines.
Emma loved to visit her children in New Mexico or go to her daughter and son’s home in Denver. Emma’s daughter, Thelma, loved to take her out on drives and she would always love to be in the back seat just like in the movie “Driving Miss Daisy”.
Emma had a wonderful life because she loved and always prayed for her loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren.
Emma will be missed a lot but we will never forget her and we will always remember how sweet and thoughtful she was to all of her family, relatives and friends.
