Esther E. McQuiston

Esther was born in Hominy, Oklahoma on Jul 16, 1917. She was the second child of Cora Maude and Walter Higgs.
She grew up in Oklahoma graduating from high school May 22, 1936 from Bristow High School in Bristow, Oklahoma, after high school she worked in Oklahoma City until April 17, 1937 when she married Henry Poole, a carpenter contractor. They traveled to Colorado where they made their home in the West Denver area.
During World War II, Henry was stationed in Minnesota where they lived until the war ended. They returned to Colorado and built a home in Edgewater. They adopted their son, John Larry in 1949. John grew up in Edgewater, graduating from high school and then attending and graduating from Colorado University in Boulder. He spent 26 years in the Air Force. John and his wife Sue had two children, one boy and one girl which made Esther very proud. Esther and Henry loved fishing and camping. They were active in Easter Star, Masonic Lodge, and Shrine.
Esther was passionate about sewing. She sewed most of her own clothing and sewed for family members as well. She loved color! This was very evident in her gardens where she could often be found in either her flower garden or vegetable garden watching things grow.
They lived in Edgewater until Henry passed November 17, 1995. Esther lived alone for five years then married Gary McQuisten, a neighbor acquaintance of several years. They were together until he passed away in March of 2015. Esther sold her home and moved to San Marino, an independent living retirement home in Westminster, CO, where she lived for three years then moved to an ssisted living home for one year, then to Well House assisted living in Arvada.
Esther was the second of six Higgs children and is survived by a sister, Pauline Price of Lockeford California and a brother, Glenn Higgs of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands and by her beloved son, John.
Esther was respected and loved by all those around her and she will be missed by all.
