She was born in Ashton, Nebraska on 6/27/1915. She graduated from Elba High School in 1934 with a class of 14 people.
Three days after graduation, she and a friend traveled to Omaha where she stayed with her brother Cliff for about a week while looking for work. She worked as a maid for about a year then attended the American Cosmetology College. While in school she became friends with a girl from Onawa, Iowa, her name was Edna Morris. She talked about her brother Don a lot who was a barber. One day she showed her his picture. She liked his looks and said " that's the guy I'm going to marry". She met him and living 70 miles apart and corresponding a lot the courtship was short. She thought that Don thought it was best that they got married rather than to drive that distance.
On December 20, 1936 they were married in Elk Point, South Dakota. You know the old saying... They didn't have a pot to you know what in...love won out. Those were the depression years. Don borrowed $50 from his mother to get married on. After being married 6 years they adopted a black hair, brown eyed boy. They named him Gary Eldon. In 1944 they moved to Denver, CO it was during the war. After living there for several years Don built a barber shop of his dreams. He operated 10 chairs at one time and she had a beauty shop in conjunction. In 1953 they adopted a blue eyed blonde girl named Debra Kay. In 1974 after 38 years of marriage Don passed away at the age of 60. She was a firm believer in keeping busy. She belonged to several bridge clubs, the Lakewood United Methodist Church, Lakewood Woman's Club, Fifty Plus, WOW's (Widows and Widowers) in which she took many wonderful trips. She loved to camp and fish. She was very proud of her home which she and Don built in 1952. She enjoyed family gatherings at her house and was known for her Easter brunches which she had a wonderful selection of food and was always followed with an Easter egg hunt for the young grandchildren. It always ended with a family softball game in which in her younger years she would participate in. The Easter brunches have gone by the wayside now, but the memories still live on. She is survived by her children Gary and his wife Ora, and Deb and her husband Joe. Her grandchildren Pamela, Gary Jr., Holly and Donny. Her great-grandchildren Joel and Shauna and her great-great granddaughter Jalette
