On a rural farm Northwest of Volin, SD, Hazel Janice Lowe was born October 15, 1924. She passed away at her home on November 11. She was baptized, confirmed and has been a lifetime Lutheran and a very proud Norwegian.
Hazel was the third child born to Leonard and Birgit Lowe. Her siblings Harriett (Jeglum), Leslie (Bud) Lowe, and Lorrene (Repp) have all preceded her in death.
Upon graduation from Volin H.S. in 1942 she attended business college in Sioux City , Iowa where she met Sgt. George Leffingwell at a USO function. He was headed overseas with the Army Air Corps. Upon his return to the states they were eventually married on January 25, 1944. To this union was born Kaye (Mick) Marsh of Parker, CO and Rick (Peg) of San Tan Valley, AZ.
Hazel worked for the Denver Schools. She was a long time secretary at Barnum Elementary and also worked in the office of the Denver School District, Transportation Department. In addition to her two children; she is survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. George preceded her in death in 2005.
