Olinger Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery - Crown Hill

Helen Irene Jones, 94 of Denver passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021. She was a resident of Applewood Our House in Golden, an assisted living home.

Born Helen Irene Stuteville, February 9, 1927, to Homer M. Stuteville and Josie Eastin Stuteville. She was the youngest of six children born to this union. She had many happy memories of being raised on a farm Southwest of Vernon, Colorado. Her family moved to a home on 8th and Franklin Street in Wray, Colorado where she began her high school education. She graduated high school with the class of 1945.

It was in Wray that she met the man she would later marry, who had just returned home from serving his country in Europe during WWII. John Malden "Bud" Jones and Helen Stuteville were married on December 24, 1946 at the Christian Church of Wray. Four daughters were born to the happy couple. Judy Kae, Barbara Ann, Sheryl Lee and Janet Elaine. Over the next 46 years Helen and John watched their daughters grow, finish their educations and marry four wonderful men who became loving sons to both.

Helen worked at Arvada State Bank for many years. Throughout her life she sewed for her daughters and then taught them the craft. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren at their births, ornate Christmas stockings to be filled with goodies from Santa, and an array of handmade gifts for their birthdays and holidays. She made beautiful needlepoint artwork and passed that skill on to her daughter Sheryl.

Her happiest moments came when her entire family gathered to enjoy picnics, holiday dinners or any time spent with her family including grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Family always came first for her and she truly enjoyed the time spent with them.

Helen was preceded in death by her dear husband John. She is survived by her daughters, their husbands, Stephen Valencia, Chris Dickey, Jack LeProwse and Dana Fenton. Her eight grandchildren, Kevin Kurtz (Susan), Jamie Kurtz, Katie Valencia, Sara LeProwse, Brian LeProwse, Andrew Fenton and Brandon Fenton. Two great grandchildren George and Layla Kurtz and a host of nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

It was Helen's final wish that at a private family gathering they celebrate her life and relive memories of their time spent with her.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Bross Street Assisted Living, Applewood Our House Assisted Living and Memory Care and Elevation Hospice of Denver.
