James Isaac Murrow (Ikie) was born in Alva, OK on March 21, 1934 to James Riley and Frances Ruby Murrow. For the first eleven years of his life, he lived with his family in Alva, Freedom and Enid, OK, all small towns. In the summer of 1945, the Murrow family moved to Colorado. Moving a family that distance in 1945 was no easy task as tires and gas were still rationed. They lived in Denver, near East High School until 1949 when they moved to 490 Jay Street in Lakewood, CO.
Jim attended Stevens Elementary and Morey Junior High while living in Denver and Alameda Senior High School after moving to Lakewood, where he graduated in 1953. Jim had a friend and roller-skating buddy named Dale Pettis. In 1954 Dale introduced Jim to his sister, Donna May Pettis. Jim and Donna soon started dating and ten months later on July 2, 1955 they married. Jim and Donna were married for 61 ½ years, at the time of her passing on February 23, 2017. Together, Jim and Donna have four children, James L., Sidney A. (Wayla L.), Rodney D. (Lori A.) and Jeanette K. (Lin S.). They were blessed with eight grandchildren, Isaac L., Brandon J., Lacey N. (Jed), Brianne R. (Jared), Cassie M. (Lucas), Truitt J., Cynda C. and Lindsey K. and nine great-grandchildren, Parker, Eli, Isaac, Nikolai, Adley, Zane, Killian, Mikayla, and Lainey.
Jim has six siblings, Evelyn Frances, Melba Maxine, Alta Maedean, Clarence Riley, Hope Evonne, and Roger Neil. Jim and his six siblings grew up learning and working in the restaurant business. However, shortly after high school graduation, Jim started working in the construction field with a brick contractor. After eleven years in the brick trade, he went to work at a pre-cast plant. After fourteen years, that business closed and Jim went to work in a fireplace and barbecue store. He sold products retail and did fireplace door installation on the side. A well-deserved retirement came in 1999.
For most of his life, Jim was an active member of the Nazarene Church, teaching Sunday School, serving on the Church Board, singing in the choir and in many other capacities. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and others and felt privileged and blessed to have gone on six work and witness trips to Central America. Most recently his hobbies included reading, constructing custom birdhouses, riding his recumbent bike and walking around the neighborhood.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Murrow, his parents, James and Frances Murrow, step-dad Joseph Johnson, siblings Evelyn Hodgson, Riley Murrow, Roger Murrow, Melba Hubbart, and his treasured grandson, Isaac Louis Murrow.
