Jerry Lee McKinstry, a trailblazer and devoted advocate for her community, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on January 16, 1948, in Portland, Oregon, Jerry's life was marked by her adventurous spirit, pioneering career, and unwavering commitment to justice and equality.
Raised in the Catholic faith, Jerry's curiosity and open-mindedness led her to explore other denominations as a child, often riding her bicycle to visit different churches to see what they were like. This early sense of adventure and quest for knowledge defined her throughout her life.
Jerry broke barriers as one of the first female technicians working for AT&T, a role in which she faced numerous challenges. Despite the obstacles, she excelled in her field and became a respected professional, demonstrating courage and resilience in a male-dominated industry.
A proud union member, Jerry was known for her strong sense of justice and her readiness to stand up for her colleagues. She was a tireless advocate for workers' rights and was never afraid to speak out on behalf of others, earning the admiration and respect of those around her and the dislike of those in power.
Jerry's legacy is one of courage, compassion, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honor of Jerry's life and her commitment to justice, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A private memorial service will celebrate Jerry's life and achievements.
