John attended high school in Jacksonville, Oregon. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 1948. He was first stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Edwards Air Force Base in California was his next assignment before being sent overseas to serve in the Korean War in Okinawa in August of 1950. He returned stateside in 1952.
On August 5, 1949, John married Wilma Mae Pike in Denver, Colorado. They had two children, a daughter, Nancy, and a son, George.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Pryor and Eva Gladys (Cary) Pryor; his wife, Wilma Pryor; two sisters, Vonne Gerry and Betty Thompson; and two brothers, Joseph Pryor and Norman Pryor.
He is survived by two brothers, Loren Pryor, Hayes, Virginia, and Chuck Pryor, Connecticut; daughter, Nancy Lee Walker, Denver; son, George E. Pryor, South Dakota; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving friends and his beloved canine companion, Coco.
John was a member of the Lakewood Church of the Nazarene. He worked at Gates Rubber Company from 1953 to 1956, and then again from 1958 until his retirement.
