Judith Singleton, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away in February 2024, surrounded by her cherished family and friends in Lakewood, Colorado. Born in April 1954, Judith spent a life dedicated to the principles of public service, leaving an indelible mark on the communities she touched.
As a child, Judith reveled in family road trips and developed a lifelong passion for outdoor adventures. Her enthusiasm for the freedom of open roads and breathtaking landscapes persisted throughout her life, with each journey accompanied by good friends and the promise of a spectacular hike.
After graduating from Arapahoe High School, Judith pursued her academic ambitions at the University of Colorado, where she earned a degree in International Affairs. Her deep-seated sense of altruism and commitment to social justice propelled her to further her education at the Antioch School of Law in Washington, DC, where she earned her law degree.
Judith commenced her legal career as an Administrative Law Judge in Baltimore, Maryland, working for the Office of the Attorney General, Maryland Department of the Environment. Her dedication to justice and tireless work ethic made her a respected figure within the legal community.
While working as an attorney, Judith and her then husband were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Marisa, who was the light of their lives! Judith was a loving and devoted mother, fostering a deep connection through their shared love of travel and sports.
In 2001, following Marisa's acceptance to the University of Colorado-Boulder, Judith returned to her home state. The tragic events of 9/11 inspired Judith to redirect her career towards public safety and the protection of our nation, leading her to the Department of Homeland Security. There, she worked diligently with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the National Deployment Office, earning the admiration and love of her colleagues. Judith's dedication persisted until her retirement in 2023.
Throughout her life, Judith consistently exemplified a deep sense of community, generously contributing her time, financial resources, and boundless energy to numerous social and political non-profit organizations. Notably, she served as a committed board member of Colorado’s Common Cause organization, dedicating an impressive 21 years to advocating for fairness and accountability in public life. Her commitment to these principles stood as a testament to her enduring dedication to creating a just and equitable society.
However, perhaps the most significant expression of Judith's love was evident in her interactions with her daughter. Marisa's diverse interests kept Judith actively involved, and she tirelessly supported her daughter in every venture. Whether it was attending gymnastics, softball, or roller derby events, Judith never missed a single sporting moment. Her unwavering encouragement extended beyond the realm of sports, encompassing Marisa's academic journey, including her pursuit of Physician Assistant School.
From cheering on games across the nation to celebrating Marisa's marriage to Megan in 2018, Judith remained a constant and devoted presence. Judith was Marisa's backbone, and always supported and celebrated every milestone and accomplishment in Marisa's life.
Judith is survived by her daughter, Marisa Singleton, and her wife, Megan; her sister Sue; her niece, Jana Bramwell; grandnephew, Gunnar Bramwell; and nephew, Don Bloomquist. She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Virginia, as well as her sister, Nancy.
Judith Singleton's legacy is one of selfless service, compassion, and dedication to making the world a better place; one person and one act at a time. Her impact on the lives of those she touched, both personally and professionally, will be remembered fondly, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew Judith.
