Julia Ann Romero was born September 8th, 1939 in Augusta CO, to Julian Romero and Josephine Cruz (Baca) Romero. She was the first of three children and was raised with her siblings Robert N. Romero and Henry Richard Romero.
Julia grew up in Augusta CO., her favorite place in the whole world to be. She often spoke of the beauty of Augusta; and her love for trees and the fields she'd run through. She loved being raised on the farm and enjoyed doing the work with her Dad. She loved riding horses and even being in the Aguilar parade with her horse. She used to say she wished she would’ve stayed there. She loved school and was very intelligent; she graduated at the age of 16 from Aguilar High School. She was the beautiful prom Queen that year. In 1957, she met Antonio Ricardo Reyes, also known as Tony or Tonio, in Aguilar and they began dating. Soon after high school, her parents sent her to Denver to further her education. In Denver, she worked at a bank until Tony moved to Denver where the two fell in love and got married on March 19th 1958; they were married 62 years. He was the one and only true love of her life. Together they lived a good life with all it's challenges, ups and downs. They had three children: Reuben Joseph Reyes, Annette Reyes, and Yolanda Monique Reyes. They had five grandchildren: Duane Ferrell Jr., Angel Ferrell (stillborn 1994), Antoinette Julia Reyes, Ava Grace Reyes, and Micah Maurice Romero. They had ten great grandchildren: Angelina Ferrell, Anthony Ferrell, Emillio Ferrell, Erin Ferrell, Loveayah Rose Ferrell, Azaelianna Ferrell, Zayden Ferrell, Mylah Ferrell, Elijah Mestas, and Aliviyah Reyes.
Julia and Tony worked at Cobe Labs together until Julia retired in 1989. She then went on to become a Volunteer at Kaiser, a Spanish interpreter, and lastly at Barnum Senior Center, which she most definitely loved. Over time, Julia and Tony would attend more weddings than she could count, and had numerous good friends and good times out on the town. During the holidays, she would decorate the home as though it were a magazine cover, and her Christmas trees were boutique. She would cook full holiday meals to include her famous hamburger red Chile that the men would drool over. First and foremost she loved Jesus, but she also loved shopping, gambling, Elvis, talking on the phone to friends and relatives, and loved the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding… in later years, she came to believe she was Greek! She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and gave of herself tirelessly at every turn in life to whomever she could.
In later years, she was the main caregiver to her viejo, Tonio, and stood by his side until he went on to be with Jesus in 2020. Afterwards she was cared for by her children, and entered a Memory Care facility until her passing on 12/3/24.
She leaves behind all of her children Reuben (Velma) Reyes, Annette (Duane) Ferrell, Yolanda Reyes (Jason Romero), her living grandchildren, Duane Ferrell Jr.(Antonia Baca), Antoinette Reyes, Ava Reyes, and Micah Romero and her ten great grandchildren; her Brothers Robert (Patricia) Romero and Henry Richard Romero; Uncles Ralph Baca, Fred Baca, and Gilbert Cordova; Aunts Theresa Ortiz and Beatrice Munoz; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends Dorothy Jaramillo, Dolores Lucero, Christina Martinez, and Angeline Martinez (BFF).
She led life with an unmatched strength, wit, and stubbornness; she will be lovingly remembered as a beautiful woman, who is unsurpassed in personality, heart, and love. She is loved by many and will be deeply missed. May she enjoy Heaven with the Lord Jesus. Un Dia a La Vez…. See you soon, Mom.
