Karl Gantner was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1919. Early in his life, the family moved to southern California where he completed his schooling. In 1941, he married Phoebe Louise Denison.
During W.W.II, Karl served as a member of the U.S. Navy aboard a ship in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge in 1944, Karl returned home to Phoebe and his two sons, Gary, and Rick in Pasadena, California. Their family grew to include another son, Mark and a daughter, Catherine.
For 35 years, the Gantner Construction Company built schools and homes throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
Karl was an avid sailor, entering and winning competitions with his quadriplegic son, Rick at the helm. His pursuits in retirement were varied. As a skilled woodworker, he built a full-size stagecoach, he collected and created a model train village, then studied, designed, and built an extensive hydroponic garden of fruits and vegetables.
Karl and Phoebe were married for 74 years. After her death, and at age 97, Karl moved to Golden, Colorado. He enjoyed living close to and participating with the Colorado family of son, Gary, as well as the many special friends he met as a resident of Golden Pond Retirement Community.
Grandpa’s 3 surviving children, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grand-children and 1 great-great grandchild and in-law children will miss his presence.
In a private ceremony, Karl F. Gantner will be interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
