Kenneth Sanders is survived by his nieces and nephews and together we compiled our favorite memories.
One thing we all remember about Uncle Kenny was his wit. He was a witty fellow! Often he would have a quick-witted reply or retort to something we kids might say or do. And he always had great stories to tell. One of our favorites was when he was a Wells Fargo Armored Truck guard. He was in the back of the truck and the driver fell asleep while driving and flipped the truck. Thankfully everyone was okay, and with Uncle Kenny’s talent for storytelling he always had us laughing.
We were all very proud of him for devoting his early years to teaching life skills to mentally handicapped children. If a child was not catching on, Uncle Kenny would develop a new technique to enable them to learn.
Uncle Kenny moved back to Colorado to care for his aging parents, our grandparents, and when his mother passed, he adopted Sadie, a Catahoula dog, and was devoted to her for eleven years. In fact, he was so devoted to her that when he adopted Major, a male mix breed dog, he called Major a “her” and everyone had to check under Major to see if he really was a boy.
Uncle Kenny’s talents knew no bounds. He loved wood carving and was incredibly skilled. He was also a talented sketch artist and poet. We are blessed to have his poems compiled into two binders. Bowling was a skill that he mastered and enjoyed greatly. He also loved football and would often call his brother, JD, during a game so they could watch and talk about it together. A little bit of the light went out of Uncle Kenny when his brother and sister passed.
Uncle Kenny was very devoted to his family and his church. He was a deacon and devoted himself to helping others. He also sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. He had a close relationship with God, and we are comforted to know that he is with his Savior.
