

Kevin Smith passed away at the age of 76 at the Common Spirit Hospital St Anthony’s North, Westminster, Colorado after a long battle with cancer. Kevin was born on September 8, 1949, to Mary Kathryn (Adamson) Smith and Frederick F. Smith in Pueblo, Colorado. Kevin had two brothers, John Patrick Smith (Priscilla) and Dennis Michael Smith (Cindy).
He was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church and served as an altar boy for several years and was named altar boy of the year in the mid 1960’s. He attended St. Leander’s and Ben Franklin schools from kindergarten to 6th grade and then attended 7th and 8th grade at Heaton Middle School and graduated from East High School in 1967. He attended 2 years of college at Southern Colorado State College. He joined the Army National Guard on May 22, 1970, and completed 21 weeks of basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia and was awarded a Badge for Sharpshooter. He was released from active duty to the Army National Guard of Colorado to complete the remaining 5 years and 3 months service and was discharged on May 21, 1976. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kevin had a fulfilling career using his natural mechanical abilities. He worked as a Millwright at CFI Steel Mill in Pueblo, Colorado after military duty. After the Steel Mill he was employed by Electromodal in Kansas City, Kansas and transferred to Burlington Northern Railroad in Minneapolis, Minnesota, until September 1995. He then transferred with the railroad to Denver, Colorado. He then went to work for RTD as a mechanic in September 2000 and transferred to the Quality Control division where he worked until he retired in December 2018.
Kevin’s natural mechanical abilities served him well in his passion for automobiles. He loved working on cars and had his beloved 1939 red Ford Roadster for 20 years. He traveled to many states driving his car to many car shows. Recently his car is in the Forney Museum for their Classic Car Show. Kevin loved music and dancing. He loved Colorado and the beautiful mountains and was glad to be able to transfer back to Colorado spending time with family and friends.
Kevin was united in marriage to Linda Long on February 14, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Westminster, Colorado; his children, Carl Kelly Smith, Pueblo, Colorado; Sean Michael Smith, Pueblo, Colorado; Jeanine (Arturo Pepe) Marie Sanchez, Pueblo, Colorado; two stepchildren Staci (Jeff) Van Veldhuizen, Alvord, Iowa and Brett Long, Golden, Colorado; two grandchildren Tommy and Peyton Sanchez, Pueblo, Colorado; six step grandchildren; Adam (Emily) Van Veldhuizen, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Alyssa (Jackson) Mulder, Doon, Iowa; Shawnae Van Veldhuizen, Alvord, Iowa; Austin Van Veldhuizen, Alvord, Iowa; Jacob Van Veldhuizen, Alvord, Iowa and Shaylyn Van Veldhuizen, Alvord, Iowa; two step great-granddaughters; Kjerstyn Mulder, Doon, Iowa and Addilynn Van Veldhuizen, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and another great grandchild expected in June 2026, Doon, Iowa; along with his brother Dennis (Cindy) Michael Smith, Littleton, Colorado, brother-in-law Gary (Kathy) Oehlerts, Longview, Texas; Gregg (Kristine) Oehlerts, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and nieces and nephews.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Mary Kathryn Smith and Frederick F. Smith, brother John Patrick Smith, sister-in-law Priscilla Smith and sister-in-law Lori Otten.
