Kurt Duaine Malmgren, son of Maryann and the late Kenneth Malmgren, was born July 14, 1956 in Denver, Colorado. Kurt died on March 18, 2025, at the age of 68, after a long battle with cancer and its side effects.
He attended Golden public schools before volunteering as a firefighter for Pleasant View Fire Department and working in the medical field, Kurt was passionate about medicine and continued learning and growing in the field until his retirement in 2023.
Kurt’s first marriage was to Debra Brill where he had one daughter, Tara (Malmgren) Emge. After this marriage, he went on to meet the love of his life, Marilyn (Scarpati) Malmgren while in school to be an EMT in 1983. Excited to start their new life together, they were married in 1986.
In 1998, Kurt became a grandpa to his grandson Tony Malmgren Gallo; he enjoyed taking him to Disney World, four-wheeling, shooting and going to get a haircut. In 2012, he became a father in law when he gave his daughter’s hand in marriage to Dan Emge. In 2014, he became a grandpa to his second grandson, Andrew Emge; he loved watching and talking history together and never missed watching one of Andrew’s baseball games. Kurt treasured his time with his grandsons and loved being their Papa.
Kurt loved his family deeply and always made time to help or spend time with his mom Maryann, brothers Chris (Cheryl) and Todd (Debbie), and sister Lori. He will always be remembered for his joy and love for life and his family and his passion for tools, knife-making, his Jeep, photography and Bigfoot. We’ll always imagine him saying “What’d I get ya?” every Christmas when we would open his presents. We couldn’t have asked for a better dad, father in law, grandpa, son, uncle or brother and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all of us who loved him.
A memorial service for Kurt will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cem, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
