

Louise Frances Lewis was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on March 1, 1914. When she was six, her family homesteaded in Southeastern Colorado’s Baca County. Her older sister, four younger brothers and she grew up in the 20’s and 30’s during the great depression and dust bowl years.
She married Cecil Lewis in September of 1934. After the birth of their first child, they moved to Bayfield, Colorado where the bought and operated a general store for 13 years. In 1952 they sold the business and moved to Durango, Colorado. There she was busy mothering three children and volunteering in church and civic activities.
In 1974 she and Cecil moved to Broomfield where she continued to be active in the community. She was an election clerk and assisted in the city’s tax preparation, program for senior citizens.
She volunteered at her grandchildren’s grammar school where she taught reading skills.
From age 90 to 97 she volunteered at Broomfield’s Skilled Nursing Senior residence. She was named Volunteer of the Year when she was 93.
Just prior to going to Frasier Meadows Retirement Community in Boulder she was admitted to Avista Hospital’s Emergency room. One of the doctors proclaimed, “This is the lady that taught me how to read!”
In January of 2013, two months before her 99th birthday Louise became a resident a Frasier Meadows where she made many new friends. She became a favorite among the staff because of her genuine love and desire to please others.
Her husband Cecil preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Charlie Ray and Milton Leroy, a son Marvin and wife Milda, daughter Sharon and husband Jim and daughter Carol and husband Jean, grandchildren Marci, Blair, Joy, Julie, Stephen and Susanne and great grandchildren Joshua, Stephanie, Benjamin, Danielle, Logan, Lacey, Laura, Janae, Jenna, William, Gwennan, Caroline, and Colin.
