Marjorie Alice Munden

Marje was born in Oak Creek, Colorado, one of four daughters born to Mike and Marie Long. She treasured her childhood growing up alongside her three sisters and remained deeply proud of her hometown roots. She enthusiastically cheered at Oak Creek High School sporting events and was honored as Coal Queen in 1958.

Following high school, she enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado, then known as Colorado State College, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

Marje married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. Munden III. Following graduation, she began her teaching career in Johnstown, Colorado, while her husband completed his studies at UNC. Together, they built a life firmly rooted in faith and family, raising their four children with love, devotion, and steady guidance.

Marje loved gatherings with her sisters’ extended families that often centered around food, laughter, and time together. She devoted much of her time to chauffeuring her children to countless sporting events and school activities. Marje endeavored to set a strong example for her children, instilling in them the importance of giving back to the community and caring for those less fortunate.

Marje served for 32 years with the Archdiocese of Denver’s Sun Schools that provided accessible, faith-based education in urban areas, with a focus on serving diverse and lower-income communities. She held various roles including Principal, Assistant Principal, and teacher. She collaborated tirelessly with her colleagues within the Sun Schools program to help ensure that a Catholic education was accessible to all who sought it.

Marje was always ready for a game of Canasta, Bridge, or any number of board games. She delighted in gathering friends and family around the card table, creating lasting memories, and sharing plenty of delicious snacks.

Marje was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles W. Munden III; her mother, Marie V. Long; her father, Michael J. Long; her sister, Rosalie Schoser; her brother-in-law, Charles Schoser; and her sister, Micki Long.

She is survived by her children, Christine (Daniel) Corral, Charles W. (Connie) Munden IV, Michelle Munden, and Michael (Beth) Munden; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Karen (Jerry) Coziahr; and brother-in-law, Chuck Melbuer, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be held at Notre Dame Parish in Denver, Colorado, on March 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Notre Dame Parish on March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow immediately afterward. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery.

Marje will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Her unwavering faith, boundless compassion, devotion to family, and lifelong service to others will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
