Mark is survived by his wife, Laurie, his brother Wes, his sisters Susan and Chris, his nieces Mandy and Ally, his nephew Lance, his sister-in-law Peggy, his brother-in-law Pat, his sister-in-law Kim and brother-in-law Arnie, cousins Lisa, Zach and Nick and Nick’s wife, Kayla. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Mary Hamlyn, and his parents, Glen and Margie Hamlyn.
Mark was born in Ogden, Utah, on December 1, 1954. He was the oldest of four children and a tremendous support and mentor to his younger brother and two sisters. His parents returned to their hometown of Denver, CO when Mark entered 7th grade, and he stayed in the area until his passing. Mark loved the Colorado Front Range and was a passionate steward and outdoor enthusiast across the beautiful landscape surrounding his home.
Mark earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Denver. He later studied and took many courses in Information Technology to enhance his professional expertise for his career in IT work with the State of Colorado and Boulder Valley School District. Mark loved working with people and helping them with their technology challenges. At BVSD, he found the best of both worlds, supporting the learning and careers of students, teachers, and administrators through his IT knowledge. He was a lifelong learner, and personally and professionally embraced the opportunity to learn as much as possible about technology, plants, bees, and other areas of interest.
In February 1982, Mark married Laurie Giggey, and they celebrated 43 years of marriage this year. Mark and Laurie provided a wonderful support network to their family, a loving life for many cats and dogs, and enjoyed gardening and beekeeping together. They also enjoyed traveling and seeing beautiful places, including Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona.
Mark loved his extended family and was a thoughtful and giving brother and uncle. He enjoyed hearing about his nieces’ and nephew’s adventures and accomplishments, and enjoyed getting together for a meal, a hike, or a chat. He was always there for family and friends with a truck, his tools, and a smile anytime someone needed his help. Mark had an eternally positive outlook on life, and was always sharing a good pun and a kind and caring attitude, while encouraging everyone to have fun!
Mark will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and his impact on the Colorado community.
A celebration of life will be at the family home on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Arbor Day Foundation in Mark’s memory.
