Millie Herman passed away on Saturday September 21st at Mountain Vista Senior Center. She was born January 4th, 1923 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado to the late Gottfried and Katherine Wagner. Millie was the 5th oldest of eighteen children.
Little did she probably know she would be the 5th oldest of eighteen total children. The family would move to Montana for a period of time and then eventually move back to Colorado.
Millie’s mother passed sometime around the age of 46, at which Millie found herself taking care of and helping raise a family of eighteen children, ten of them younger than her.
She met Donald Herman prior to World War II, and Donald then went and served our country for four years and they would later marry in 1947. Millie would work a few odd and end jobs before settling in to staying at home and eventually raise three sons of her own.
Millie was a very simple person, she loved to care for her family, loved to cook every meal by scratch and a dessert present at every dinner. When she wasn’t cooking, she was either cleaning her house or tending to her yard and flowers. Millie did everything old school, some laundry by hand even though she had a washing machine, ironed every piece of clothing by hand and was the only person probably to scrub her garage floor on hands and knees by hand. She was the most patient person you would ever know and never got over excited about anything unless you tried to take her photo, which was a “no-no”. Millie was the best wife a man could ever have, a wonderful mother and an awesome grandmother. She cherished raising her three boys and then eventually being able to enjoy her grandchildren. Being with her grandchildren always put a smile on her face. When you think of a person and how they are remembered, Millie would be described as one of the hardest working people you would ever know. A person that defies obstacles and never ever complained about anything she had to do in life, no matter how hard or difficult. She always took charge of everything in life, and no matter what happened, always had a smile on her face. She is now at peace and reunited with Donald, Robert, and her family.
Millie is survived by five sisters, Esther Ozmun, Alice Ramsey, Edna Wagner, Violet Rexroth and Patty Carpenter; Donald Herman; son, Michael Herman; son, Meghan Roenicke; granddaughter, Casey Shoda; granddaughter, Elijah Herman; Grandson, Sydney Herman; granddaughter, Adrian Herman; great grandson and Ainsley Roenicke; great granddaughter. Not to be forgotten her late son Robert Herman.
