Monica Marie Luise Caron of Aurora, Colorado passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born on September 1, 1932 in Tapachula, Mexico to Konrad and Herta Sauerwein. Monica grew up in Wiesbaden, Germany along side her siblings Gerhard und Ursula. Growing up during World War II in Germany had an immense impact on her life. It defined the woman she became, strong, resilient and resourceful. Monica went on to work in a toy store and pharmacy before finding the love of her life, Phillip Caron, and venturing to America.
In 1956, with $60 in her pocket, she boarded a cargo ship with 15 passengers, and sailed to New York City to meet her fiancé, Phillip. They then drove across country to Denver, Colorado and were married on November 24, 1956 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Monica was a dedicated Air Force wife for over 20 years and was blessed with four children, Michael, Dean, Andrew and Ursula. After living in Denver they were stationed in San Antonio, Texas where her twins, Michael and Dean were born. The family moved to Tripoli, Libya for the next assignment. There her third son, Andrew, was born. The growing family moved back to Denver where the family became complete with the birth of their only daughter, Ursula. Next, the family was fortunate to be stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany reuniting Monica with her family. After the family returned to the United States, completing an assignment at March Air Force Base in California, they returned to Denver in 1973 where Monica and family made it their permanent home.
Settling in, Monica began working in retail at Macy’s. She became adept in many departments moving through notions, electronics, housewares, Estee Lauder and ending as a bridal consultant. Sadly, after she started her career, Phillip passed away in 1975 and Monica was left alone to lovingly raise her four children who all became caring and successful adults. She retired from Macy’s after 28 years.
Throughout her life Monica had many passions, from gardening to baking to volunteering. Her garden was large with many vegetables and herbs but her specialty was tomatoes and raspberries. Everyone loved them! Her green thumb was evident with prized roses and houseplants all over. Her baking was just as loved from her European tortes to her homemade raspberry jam. She passed that love onto her family. Her volunteer activities centered on the Lowry Catholic Women’s Group where she organized the menu and prepared the food for the monthly luncheons. Monica was also a long-time member of the Society of Military Widows serving in various officer and committee positions.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents, Konrad and Herta Sauerwein; her husband, Phillip Vincent Caron; her son, Andrew Lee Caron; her brother, Gerhard Sauerwein; and her sister, Ursula Schmidt.
She is survived by her children: Michael Caron; Dean Caron and his wife, Terry; and Ursula Caron Gray and her husband, Raynard, and their children, Ian and Sydney. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Caron (wife of her late son, Andrew), and her children, Amie, Jessica, Natalie, and Garrett, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Karmyn, Oakley, Wesley, and Henry.
Family and friends are invited to attend at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary 7777 W. 29th Avenue, Wheatridge, CO 80033 on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 11:00am. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am.
