Monna Lea Krebs was taken home to be with her Lord January 9, 2026 at age 101. She was born September 12, 1924 in Cisco, Illinois. Her mother and siblings moved to southern California for career opportunities and Monna followed them when she was in her early 20’s after graduating from high school and working in Illinois. In California, she graduated from business college and worked as an administrative assistant for State Farm and later for the Denver Rio Grande Railroad where she met her late husband, Wendell. They married and moved to Wheatridge, Colorado in 1962. Monna also worked for the director of the Denver Public Library and later volunteered with the Denver Museum of Natural History.
Together, Monna and Wendell loved playing golf. Later, Monna took up bird watching and walking with friends. She was a regular with a walking and coffee group that met at the Colorado Mills. A favorite quote: “Nature does not hurry, and yet everything is accomplished.” Monna also practiced Tai Chi and was more flexible at 90 than most people at 20. She said Tai Chi helped her balance and also gave her a sense of tranquility and serenity. Monna also loved to play games. When her nieces and nephews visited and offered to play a game, Monna would cheerfully say, “Let’s go kids.” While playing games with her friends, Monna would often win. The prize she chose was chocolate which she didn’t care for but knew her family would enjoy.
Monna loved life, family, and friends. She also loved Jesus and took comfort in His promise to prepare a place for her in heaven (John 14:1-3). She believed that the Lord was her Shepherd who was with her and helping her not to fear the walk through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23).
Monna is preceded in death by her husband Wendell, sister Barbara Wight, and brother Ray Shaver. She is survived by nieces and nephews Cindy and Kent Melvin, Deb and Chuck Melvin, Diane and Eric Shaver, Michael Shaver, Gary Shaver, Suzanne and Randy Wight, Laurie and Chuck McCament, and Cheryl and Chad Wight.
A private ceremony will be held later in January.
