Nancy Kelly Bybee, age 75, was born October 6th, 1949 in Denver, Colorado to the late Raymond (Pete) and Lela Kelly. She grew up in Lakewood Colorado and attended South Lakewood Elementary, Creighton Middle School, and Lakewood High School (Class or 67). Nancy also traveled for most of her childhood summers to Iowa where she played with her many maternal cousins.
She spent her college years in Gunnison at Western State College. Nancy met her husband, Jan Bybee, in September of her freshman year. The two were married on June 12th, 1969 and had four children: Allison Huerta, Shannon (Eric) Knight, Scott Patrick (Kristina) Bybee, and Melinda (Shane) Loesch. They planted their roots in Lakewood, Colorado raising their children in their home of 52 years.
Nancy was a stay-at-home mom for almost two decades before putting her teaching degree to use in 1989. Throughout her career, she worked in several Jefferson County schools where she was primarily a Title 1 Math teacher.
Nancy enjoyed traveling, church, Craft Club, Book Club, Fun Club, Bunco, Bridge, thrift shopping, hosting luncheons and dinners, bringing meals to friends in need, and going out to lunch with her many friends. One of her most cherished accomplishments was being a wonderful grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Alex, Michael, Taylor, Logan (Ryley), Emily, Nicholas, and Gavin. She was generous, kind, and loving to them all; she and Jan took all seven of them to Disneyland throughout the years as well as other vacations. She loved having the kids spend the night, so she could spoil them!
Nancy passed away on December 29th, 2024 after a short battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Please join us as we celebrate her life on January 6th, 2025 at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church at 11:00. In lieu of food or flowers, please make donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
