Nancy J. Donahue was born on October 26 to Thomas Donahue and Elizabeth Mulhare in Newark, New Jersey. She grew up in New Jersey until her family relocated to Colorado during her high school years. Colorado became her permanent home.
In her youth, Nancy was a tremendous athlete who would always be chosen first in a lineup and often outplayed the boys, no matter the sport. She was also a cheerleader while she attended Corpus Christi School.
After graduating from Bear Creek High School, Nancy attended the University of Northern Colorado where she made some lifelong friends, perfected her billiards game, and excelled at the art of event planning and mixology. Always curious and wanting to continue her education, Nancy later graduated with honors from Regis University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. She was also very active in organizations like PSI World Seminars, Toastmasters and Dale Carnegie Training.
Nancy began working for Mountain Bell as a switchboard operator. From here she began a career in telecommunications that would span more than 40 years. She saw her company go through many acquisitions and name changes all while she accumulated many President’s Club awards and worked her way up the corporate ladder to become a Telecommunications Contract Negotiator for what is now Lumen.
Always quick with a joke or witty comment, Nancy loved to laugh and had a mischievous sparkle in her beautiful Irish blue eyes. She never met a stranger and had friends from all walks of life. She attended church when she could and would often meet friends to play pool afterwards. Nancy never missed an opportunity to flirt with a handsome waiter or to tell a child how beautiful they were.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughter and granddaughter. She was a fierce advocate for the two of them and they brought so much happiness and spice to her life. She learned to speak Spanish, but often used her own form of “Spanglish.” Nancy also loved family gatherings and took immense pleasure in seeing her granddaughter play with her nieces and nephews.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Areli Jokabet, granddaughter Zoe Camila, her four siblings, Tom, Betsy, Barbara, Mary Ellen, her nieces Lauren, Shannon, Sabrina, Penelope and nephews Brad, Beau, and Brock.
Nancy was a warm, loving, and funny person. She will be missed by many who will keep her spirit alive in their hearts and memories.
To honor Nancy, we ask attendees to wear her favorite color red to her celebration of life. We hope in the future whenever you wear red, you will think of Nancy.
