

Dr. Norman LeRoy Burris, LTC US Army (ret.), 78, retired military optometrist, passed away May 12, 2010 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He was born January 2, 1932 in Washington Court House, Ohio. He obtained his bachelor of science and doctor of optometry degrees from Ohio State University. He joined the United States Army and served his country abroad in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1979 to establish an optometric technicians program at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas. He later moved to Denver, Colorado and worked as a civil service optometrist at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center until his full retirement. Norman was preceded in death by his 1st wife Ann Marie Burris, his parents William and Florine Burris, and a grandson Chris Curtice. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Anna Lovelia (Lee) Burris; children Paula Blume (Salina, Kansas), Laura Cote (Las Vegas, Nevada), Brian Burris (Wichita, Kansas), Nancy Withers (Wichita, Kansas), Ron Curtice (Houston, Texas), and Brent Curtice (Paonia, Colorado); grandchildren Amanda, Justin, Ciciley, Kyle, Grant, Paul, and Stephanie; great grandchild Angelo; brothers Lawrence Burris, Frank Burris, and Robert Burris (all of Ohio). Norman was an honorable man, a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed greatly by those who knew him. Services are to be held on May 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4500 Wadsworth Blvd., Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033-3304.
