On October 2, 2017, my mom, Olive Mae Culp ( Strickler ) went on to be with Our Lord & Savior and the Lord God Almighty, as well as the many loved ones, family members and friends who have gone before her. It is quite possible that many of those who have gone before, may have met her at the pearly gates to welcome her home. Not only will mom be reunited with Gene    ( to whom she was married for over 30 years) she will also be reunited with my dad ( C. Fred Strickler, to whom she was married for over 20 years before he died of cancer in 1974). Gene was also likely greeted by his first wife Vi who also predeceased him. Mom will also get to see her mom & dad, her brothers & sisters, her deceased children and all of the many people that have already made it to Heaven and had the opportunity to have gotten to know her during her lifetime.

Throughout our lives, our relationship as mother and son has changed, just like most of our earthly relationships have changed. Dad died and you remarried. I graduated from high school and college. We moved to Florida and when you moved to Colorado. When I got married, had kids and you got grand kids. Gene's passing and you getting sick. Sometimes we saw you in person but since moving to Colorado most of our communications had been by phone and greeting cards throughout the year. Since moms health declined in May of 2016 and she showed signs of Alzheimers, we weren't able to communicate as much as we once had, but one thing was for sure. We always knew she loved us and she always knew we loved her and would be with her if we could. There is nothing like a 2000 mile distance to keep us from seeing each other in person. She was always in our thoughts and prayers.

Mom, we miss you, but we also know, in Heaven, there is no more pain, no more arthritus, no more cyatic pain, no more death, no more heartache, no more disappointments and we know you are finally at peace. You are in a better place. We will see you again.

In Loving Memory of Olive Mae Culp,

Throughout the years I would tell my Pappy and Gram that if they ever needed help, they could count on me. One January day in 2006, Gram called me, to tell me Pappy was sick and asked me if my offer still stood. Of course I said, indeed it did. She went on to tell me Pappy had lost a lot of weight and had been sick for some months, they needed help and thought it was time to take me up on my offer. They asked me to come to Florida and drive them back to Colorado. In April 2006, I did go to Florida and brought them back to Colorado to live with me. 

Pappy was not well, however with rest, love, and care he regained his strength. They eventually got their own apartment in an independently living facility, where they had lots of retired friends. Then on September 2, 2008, the Lord called Pappy home. It was a fateful day for those of us who knew and loved him. Pappy was a godly man, who was gracious and kind to all. Gram and I spend that night together comforting one another and this was the beginning of a new chapter for us both. 

Gram was never one to be completely open with her emotions although I learned how to read what she might be feeling in a given moment. She was strong willed, loving, stubborn, and determined. She often would say to me, You are the daughter I never had and I could not love you more, than if I gave birth to you. I knew she loved me and she knew I loved her. After Pappy went home to meet the Lord, so often it was just Gram and I. She had her friends and I had mine but most of all we had each other. 

In May 2016, Gram had hip surgery which was the beginning of her decline. She never really recovered from the surgery, it was the onset of many more health issues to come. Still she was a fighter, brave and strong. She never gave up. On October 2, 2017 at 4:25 AM MT she was called home to meet the Lord and I have no doubt Pappy was there to greet her. I will miss her, truly. I will miss her smile, her love, and the way she would light up when I walked in the room. 

My grandfather asked me to spread his ashes on a Colorado Mountain and Gram asked that I wait to spread until her time came when they could be once again reunited. I will honor their wishes. On October 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM MT we will celebrate her life on the top of Mount Lindo where rumor has a mountain lion suns itself on the road up to the mountain. We will be have a grave side service on the top of Olinger Mt. Lindo Cemetery, 5928 South Turkey Creek Road, Morrison, CO 80465. During the service we will be spreading the ashes Pappy (Eugene K. Culp) and Gram (Olive M. Smith Culp) in a very special place surround by mountains and beauty. I hope you will come and join us as we celebrate Olive and re-united her with her beloved husband, Eugene.
