Ray gave the best hugs. He had a strong sense of community; a way of bringing people together and making them feel welcome. I will never forget him.

I was on the Long Branch Dolphins summer swim team with Ray and Brian back in the '90s.  I was only in elementary school when Ray was in high school, but I remember how kind a person and how skilled a swimmer Ray was and how I aspired to be as good a swimmer as he was one day.  To the Hebert family, I'm sorry for your loss.

Ray, for you the simple greeting of "How are you?" was not a formality.  It was a sincere, friendly and heart felt inquiry.  I will miss your smile and enthusiasm at water polo, in and outside of the pool.

I want to express my condolences to the family.  I was on Swim Team with Ray in High School and also was one of the Assistant Swim Coaches over at Long Branch Dolphins Swim Club over the summer.  He used to be the nice guy who drove everyone in the long branch neighborhood home after we had pasta dinners before our high school swim meets, and I was one of the people he used to bus home because I didn't have a license at the time.  I remember he used to drive a van, and so he would drop off a lot of us!  Even though I was much younger than him, he was always so kind to the kids on the team and was always so kind to me.  I will never forget him, he was someone I really looked up to at the time.  He was so good looking, smart, and kind.  I don't think there was anyone on swim team who didn't think the world of him.  He was such a great guy. He was so amazing doing the butterfly.  His stroke was beautiful - the way he leaped out of the water.  He was so down to earth.  High School can be a time filled with so much confusion and he always seemed so grounded to me.  He was really an amazing person.  I am so sorry for your loss.

Ray was a great dad, I always admired how he interacted with his daughter and loved her. He even brought her to water polo. Ray was a always positive and always had a smile on his face.  Losing Ray makes  me stronger and more appreciative of what's important in life.

Ray, I'll miss your smile and good nature at every water polo practice you went to you were always joking and friendly with everyone. I remember Saturdays at beach polo when you'd bring Alex and help her learn to swim; you were such a patient father always encouraging and gentle while allowing her to make her own way through the water. These are the types of lessons your daughter won't forget, to make her own way and be patient with herself along the way.

Thank you Ray, for your positivity, smile and laughter in and out of the pool. You are missed.

Ray:  Yesterday was sorrowful and beautiful at the same time - a gathering of love for one who gathered love around him daily.  You made an indelible, irreplaceable mark on the world and I trust you know that now.  As we continue this closing journey today, we'll celebrate the delicious dichotomy that you were:  intellectual yet grounded by the earth, larger than life yet unassumingly humble.  I'll remember your irrepressible smile, the blue leisure suit, deliberating over which black/white movie was the best, origami peace cranes, you singing with Alex on a hike, skate park mentoring, herb seeds and your wondrous talent for making everyone feel special and treasured.  May heaven's angels fill your heart with happiness and wrap you in their embrace.  And may you amaze them with a meal of your delicious lamp chops.  I look forward to our meeting again at a new Celestine moment.

I've known Ray as a former colleague at Intrawest and as a friend.  He was always a positive person who made everyone around him feel special as he did me.  He valued others and he valued their opinions. He talked about his daughter Alex often and no matter what, she was always his first priority. My husband contracted for him in his roofing company and always felt that Ray was polite and respectful. Our condolences to the entire family.  What a treasure his life was.   We were blessed to have known him.

For my young friend Ray: a eulogy.

Young, tall, good-looking, intelligent - Ray was a man for all seasons; he had a dry wit and the demeanor of a gentleman. 

He truly was a gentleman. Quiet, soft spoken.

The years I knew him, and they were more than a few, I can't recall ever hearing him utter harsh or ugly words about anyone.

You knew he was a seeker. I remember him telling everyone about his hiking trip through Italy. And he loved the mountains.

We argued, in a friendly way, a favorite topic of his: economics. Being a nosy surrogate "Uncle," I more than once - unsuccessfully - encouraged him to go to graduate school. 

Ray and I spoke not more than a month before his passing, sharing silly corporate gossip. 

Ray had an incredible sense of was important in life. 

For the number of years I have been above ground on this planet, there are a few things; mysteries that will always elude me, things that occurred without rhyme or reason, things that will forever haunt me. 

Ray's passing is such a mystery. A mystery I will never understand. 

Billy Joel's words "Only the Good Die Young" never rang so true. 

Goodbye, my young friend. I shall truly miss you.

For as long as I live.

Ray and I started Intrawest about the same time and it was a pleasure not only to work with Ray, but a special opportunity to really know him. Ray always managed to brighten up the room and put a smile on my face. We had many conversations about our kids from the time they were born, and I will dearly miss that.  My condolences to his daughter and family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I watched you grow, explore, learn and love...and then become a parent yourself...I had hoped to see you for many more years but alas its not to be...

Ray was a deeply spiritual man.  This spirit was expressed to me as his love for Alex.  Also in his love of gardening and caring for the land.  (And by the way, his granola recipe is terrific)  I was honored by Alex calling me "one of her grandmas".  Her comfort is utmost in my mind.  
Ray, our family called my dad "the grand gentleman".  Please go find him in Heaven because you would enjoy and appreciate your friendship.  Alan's proud momma!

Ray was our neighbor in Lakewood for nearly two years. The first summer we met him, Alex, and Brian was amazing. Everyone in our little complex really came together and we became the “1223 crew”. Ray opened his home to us and we enjoyed impromptu dinners and parties all summer. It was a difficult time for me at work but I'd come home and see Ray and the whole group sitting out in the grass offering cold beer, good food, and great friendship. Thank you Ray for bringing joy to my wife and me and for being our friend.

Ray, it was wonderful to meet you through work. I also enjoyed our time together as friends! Danna and I always excited for your annual crawfish boil party. You're very upbeat, positive, and fun to hang out with the past few years! Please accept our prayers and deepest condolence.

Ray was such a wonderful, involved, caring father.  His love for Alex was so evident.  Ray created many photos and videos of Alex and was always generous in sharing them with us.  The time they spent together in so many activities was valuable to both of them.  Ray will be missed and never forgotten.

Ray was part of my life when we were learning what it was like to grow up and figuring out who we needed and wanted to be. He was always there in my brightest and darkest of days with his smile and positive good soul. He offered the purest of friendships and the strongest of hearts and will be deeply missed. My condolences to his family.

To a man who was so passionate about everything in life, I am having a hard time understanding all of this...he was so inspirational and loving.  

I am heartbroken for his family and friends going through this difficult time.  He was very significant in my life from being a co-worker, going bowling to playing poker, to hanging out at TMI for drinks and a good time.  He taught me a lot about permaculture, and we walked a path of learning goat farming, beekeeping, raising chickens and brewing beer with his bro.  He was excited about learning to be self-sufficient.  

I had a lot of respect and admiration for him - he had a great comforting soul.   I wish him and his family peace...it is sad to say "good bye".  We will all miss you, Ray!

I had the pleasure of working and hanging out with Ray.  He was so much fun to hang out with.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  He will truly be missed.  He would always talk about his daughter and was very proud of his precious little girl.

As you probably know, we are devastated by the news of Raymond's passing.  It's even worse when you actually know the person, and have spent time with them on several occasions.  First, when you lived on Maxwell while Ray was attending ACSC…we had dinner at your house and the boys and Carissa had a delightful time. Then to, I remember having lunch with Raymond years ago at Starbucks in the Denver area…he was so excited and enthusiastic about their new business adventure.  And lastly, I remember all of you together at your dad's funeral in Salisbury…it was a memorable moment seeing you all ...as a family, having a group photo done with old “stoneface” Ray.  Needless to say, we will always have fond memories of Raymond, and he will always remain alive in the memories to those who knew him, and loved him.

Again, we are heartbroken, and hope you two find the strength to lead your family to some sort of understanding and consolation of this heavyhearted situation. Although we will not be there, our hearts and warm thoughts go out to the entire family.

Ray, it doesn't seem real.  May this candle burn brightly in remembrance of you.

I worked with Ray at Intrawest in the earlier days in Golden. He was always so pleasant to be around, smiling, positive about life, laughing all the while.  My condolences to his family especially, and to his many, many friends.

I met Ray through my wife's work.  I immediately recognized him as an amazing person.  He had friends from all walks of life, from the nerdy work friend to the giant buff biker guy.  He went out of his way to make sure everyone felt welcome and included.  I am happier for knowing him, even through our indirect relationship.

I had the pleasure of working with Ray here in Austin when I was attending college. The guy literally brightened up my day every time I saw him. His positivity was infectious and he had a knack for making people around him smile. My prayers are with your entire family for peace during this time.

Ray was an amazing guy. He was so full of energy and love. Ray brought life into any room or place he entered and I remember how great he made everyone feel. I am so sorry for your family's loss. I pray that God's love will comfort all of you in this difficult time.
