

Richard was born in Tulelake, CA. His family would later move to Colorado where he met his friend and partner of 58 years, Candie, at West High School. They married in 1967.
Rich was drafted by the Army in December 1967. He would ship out in the Summer of ’68 after completing bootcamp to Vietnam where he served two tours. In the Army he served as a vet tech and would train bomb sniffing dogs who would go before the soldiers to ensure safe passage.
Upon his return home to the US in 1969, Rich would use his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and join the CDC unit located in Fort Collins, CO where he would stay for the rest of his career.
In his spare time, Richard, enjoyed being an avid fisherman, he was a tremendous sports addict who loved his Broncos, he was a gifted gardener and would plant a large variety of vegetables as well as flowers; his favorite being Dalias. He was very dedicated to his well-being and would go every day to the gym to remain healthy even after being placed on oxygen!
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Candie and brother, Howard (Pam). He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched.
