I send my condolence to the family of Riley Scott.  May happy memories of Riley bring you comfort as we await the fulfillment of  Acts 24:15, which gives us hope to be reunited with our dead loved ones.

Although I never met Riley in person, I am forever grateful that he befriended my barely18 year old son when he moved to Vail to pursue his dream of being a Lift Operator and snowboarding Colorado between high school and college. He took my son under his wing and watched out for him. My son considered Riley to be his best friend there even with the age difference. I was concerned about that but Riley looked out for him and didn't let him get into things he shouldn't. They did lots of fun things together - concert's, barbeque, mountain biking, frisbee golf, hiking, etc. and, mostly, their favorite thing - snowboarding! Great memories were made.

Once, when I was on my nightly call with my son, Riley got on the phone and said, "Don't worry Mom. I've got this and I'll make sure he doesn't get into any trouble!" I loved that. Another time, my son's truck was getting towed and Riley was the first one there to help him out without even being asked. What an amazing son you raised!

My son really wishes he could have come to Riley's services and we are so very sad for the loss of such a great young man. I know we can never understand your pain but we know you'll all be together one day and, in the meantime, many people gained a Guardian Angel. I just hope that my son can live up to Riley's legacy. Rest assured that he had a great life that he loved in Vail.

Heaven gained a beautiful angel when Riley arrived.  To all of us it was too soon but for him the time was right and that is what we have to believe. He will always be “Smiley Riley” to me!  That was our personal nickname for him when he would come over tagging along with Tyler. He Always has a smile and good things to say. He was kind, pleasant, mannerly and oh so handsome. I grieve for his family as they are all wonderful people and so close. I know in my heart I will see that fabulous smile again one day. Enjoy the day Riley. You are at peace now!

Riley was one of a kind. He befriended me after I moved to Austin and became a bartender on 6th. Without hesitation he invited me to hang out with him and his group of friends. He was so incredibly welcoming to anyone and everyone he met. When he was living on E 7th, we’d hang out at the house and sit on the roof at night watching the skyline of Austin. It was in that moment that I knew my decision to move to Austin was the right one. Sharing those fun times at the house is something I’ll never forget!

Riley, of course, was the first friend to invite me out on Lake Austin. We would work so late and wake up at the butt crack of dawn to wakesurf and wakeboard. I am not a morning person, but no matter what he was always so energized and excited to go out - and it rubbed off on me! It was and is still my favorite thing to do in Austin - thanks to him! 

He was so full of life and genuinely cared for every person that crossed his path. I wish I would’ve stayed in better touch, but the amount of time we spent together doesn’t discount how much he touched my life in any way. He touched everyone’s lives! I’m glad I got to be a small part of it.

To his family - my thoughts and prayers have been with you all every day and will continue to be. There are no words. He will always be with you, being the guardian angel that he’s always been!

See you again one day, Riley! Bet you’re having the biggest adrenaline-filled adventure of all time! :)


The world is a bit less bright today, but the impact that Riley made on everyone he touched was indescribable! One of my favorite memories with Riley was when we lived in Austin after our Conroe days... there was a biker rally downtown and Riley insisted that we go! I skeptically agreed, but had no idea what I was in for. I met at him at his place where he was outside with his street bike ready to go... I said Oh No, Not happening! (I swore I would never get on one.) That didn’t fly with him... he handed me his helmet and off we went! What a fun night we had with all of the bikers :-D 

 Riley always pushed me out of my comfort zone! And I let him, because I always knew I would be protected and he had my back. I will miss him terribly <3

Riley you were always that kid with so much energy,  such a huge smile and everyone’s friend! A very special young man from a very special family.. I remember all those moments at the house in the pool, skiing, baseball and enjoying your love for excitement! I’m going to miss you Riley as will so many but I will always remember you and that truly kind heart and brilliant smile of kindness! 

Carol and I have fond memories when you guys came to see us in the bay area. Although we have kind of lost touch it is impossible to understand the sorrow you must be feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Riley is in good hands and will always be in your heart.

Riley and I met when we were both living and working in Austin, TX. Riley became my favorite person immediately. I’m so blessed to have shared so many good memories with him. He was a light, even in the darkest of rooms. His infectious smile and kind personality was always able to brighten up any bad mood of mine. Riley loved my boxer molly, so much so that he would often take her for sleepovers at his house just because he loved snuggling with her. I will always be so thankful I was his friend. Riley, my sweet friend, I will miss you dearly and I’m so sorry I wasn’t around more recently. I know you’re up above watching over all of us, smiling and dancing around. Rest well my friend.

To Riley’s family, sorry will never be enough to comfort the pain you’re going through, I am so sorry for this loss. I’m keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
